I usually prefer wooden grips, and the ones in the pics are nice, but I also like the factory plastic ones on this model. They have a classic Beretta look that I really like.
My FiL reloads 32acp for both of us, so I don't have to worry about ammo costs. He just has me pay for half of the materials, so it's probably 10 cents a round or less.

AIM has PRVI .32 for less than $12 a box, sold out of the $10 Geco.

The magazine situation with these is going to be a nightmare and I don't see Beretta, Mec Gar, or even Promag making mags for these in the future.
I'll pass, I can't justify buying a semi auto pistol that's only ever going to have one magazine to go with it.

I think that you will see Beretta USA get magazines in. They are still available in Europe.
It might take a few weeks or months, but I bet that there is already an order from Beretta USA to the mother ship for a boat load, based upon the resurgent popularity of the 81.

Even if they do order a boat load of mags, he's the problem with that:
$49 for a mag is about 1/4 of the price of the gun.
I mentioned exactly this in another Beretta 81 thread. Some of the guys felt that was an acceptable cost but I agree with you. As I posted above, I went with modified magazines for a cheaper price.

Yup but don't see how that makes any difference. The cost of the magazine is the same whether you got the gun for free or paid full retail.

Was in Walmart today and went back to the ammo counter to see if they had any 32 acp. All they had was 3 boxes of Winchester at $25 a box. I think I’ll be ordering my ammo from Aim. $25 is a little steep.
I ordered 3 of the modified 84 mags, and I’ll just wait on new ones. $48 a mag is expensive, but order one here and there. I only need one or two.

You have to get .32 ACP online, otherwise you are gonna pay a lot to shoot. Armscor, Geco, Prvi and Fiocchi online. Best results with my CZ50 has been Fiocchi.

There's also an issue with Winchester .32 ACP having trouble feeding because of the flat bullet nose. Every other .32 ACP load out there has a round nose bullet.
So, word of advice is to NEVER buy Winchester .32 ACP.

Maybe not all Winchester. I've used Winchester Silver Tip in my new 81 without any problem. That has been a most trusted round in all of my .32acp pistols.
I've used a bunch in my pre and post-war Walthers with no issues. I have read reports that the shorter oal lets them work in a Seecamp 32, but haven't had the chance to test it out yet.
I'm also expecting a model 81 on Wednesday as well. I did the $20 extra for best out of 10, just in case I can get a nice looking one.
My magazines are in transit now, but I got an email from Robertson Trading Post just a few minutes ago. Details below. Looks like if there are any issues they intend to make it right.

Only while the current batches of surplus are being retailed. Once they are sold out the price of model 81s is certain to return to approximately the previous level, and the mags will be 10 to 15% the price of a gun. High, but by no means outrageous for a collectable. And let's be honest, collecting is really the main reason to buy an all steel 32 in this size.
