BEA42BCE-A6FB-4CE0-8387-F836E94865CD.png Hi, I don’t know if this has already been posted before but I’m reaching out registering load data on getting a Federal .223 equivalent load that shoots fire. So far I’ve used BL-(c)2 and CFE 223 max charge for my A3 platform. But haven’t quite been able to duplicate the fire out of the barrel like Federals. (See picture) I’m aware that federal uses a non canister powder but nothing I’ve loaded burns as hot or as slow. And CFE223 seems to be the slowest burning powder on the burn chart for .223. Let me know what you all think.

Reason I’m asking is they are loud and super fun when we have people come over.
Also FYI I’m a certified Reloader. And have a lot of equipment to get the job done.

I see your fireball, and raise you a 45gr .224 VMax riding into glory on a book charge of AA2230:

. . . the 10.5" pistol barrel may have helped a smidge.

Welcome to THR, Taylor W. Bastianelli! :)

Sorry, but one of the myriad aspects of our hobby in which I have no interest (and have actually never even thought about until now ;)) is "novelty fireball loads" but I hope that you continue to have fun with it.

I bought some frontier brand .223 from a local store. That stuff shoots fireballs in broad daylight. Shooting at night would probably require sunglasses. In the the words of Billy Zane from the movie sniper "May you go blind."
Haha, that’s the same with Federal .223 MSR huge fire in broad daylight.

M1A1Fireball.png I know you were looking for info on load data for a fireball load (also didn't know about this), but I'm too new to reloading to offer any advice worth anything. But I raise your Mosin with an M1A1..:)

Use something slower yet. Try 760 or H-4350.
With a light weight bullet, so it will get out of the way of the fire.
See if there are any slower powders without flash suppressants.
With a very slow powder the trick is getting enough in to work well. Expect to hear crunching.

And finally, when you find something that works well for you, come back and tell us about it!:)
(All my fire comes from H-110, via pistols.;))

Yes! Myself and an RO noticed another shooter was getting terrific fireballs out of an AR. We asked what ammo he was using and it was Frontier .223. I borrowed a couple of rounds and fired them in my AR so he could see what we were talking about. Same effect, he was also impressed..While firing the rounds the flash was not particularly noticeable.

I use H-110 in my DE and .300 BLK pistols gets a huge fire ball very loud and fun. 7A8BFBB9-09B2-4BE2-85F7-16A50FFD0EFF.jpeg 946F039E-11BF-455A-96C4-24DD83125DBA.jpeg

I will! Defiantly report back to you, thank you for all of the encouragement even a long time coming for the AR loads lol

Yeah you can really see the flash when shooting as much as when your a bystander. seems they use a slower burning powder as well.

I worked up loads for my DE 44, using both N-110 and H-110, and the difference between the two was night and day. I got the same velocity from each, but the noise and flash with the H-110 loads was much more than from the N-110 loads.

The frontier stuff shoots ok but I didn't buy it to turn my AR into a flamethrower. The guy at the store I bought it from was bragging about how cheap it is and it uses a Hornady bullet. I took a short video of my brother shooting it and although the video doesn't look like what I saw with my own eyes you can see several flashes in the middle of the day. I originally built the gun to be ca legal/featureless so it has a muzzle brake rather than the A2 flash hider that came with the barrel.

Many of the newer powders have flash suppressants in them such as CFE 223 and Ramshot tac. I can't think of any powders that I've shot in 223 that have had big fireballs. One of my favorite things to do is shoot 357 magnum stuffed full of H110 and a 125 grain hollow point at dusk. The fireballs are great and I love hearing it echo back and forth off the tree lines.
