local barn find model 12-16ga.

Looks pretty good for a neglected old popper... Make, model, etc?

16ga imp cyl sounds like someone's quail gun.

I've seen worse...

Okay we've seen the "Before" photos (and not looking all that bad from being in a barn for a lot of years)!

Will be eagerly awaiting the "After" photos when you get it all fixed up and ready to go hunting with!

Yeah I'll agree it looks well worn but certainly not in too bad of shape. Just an old gun with a lot of character. I like it. The recoil pad looks a little either shrunken or poorly fitted so I'd probably replace that personally, but that's pretty standard on an old gun like this. If you've got a belt sander they're really easy to fit yourself.

New ones aren't that expensive and would hardly detract from any "patina" concerns in terms of retaining any historical significance. Old pads don't retain much "bounce".

Look at that wood! It is very nice, even the wood on inexpensive vintage rifles and shotguns is much nicer than what is put on inexpensive firearms today.

I think that is a Model 12 Winchester and that was one well built and designed shotgun. I have handled them and they have a slick and smooth action. You are very lucky to have found one.

I can't think of a recoil pad that has not oxidized in time, so replacing and old one with a new one is to me, a non event. Since you are going to replace the old recoil pad, you can alter the length to your measurements, which in today's world, usually means increasing the pull. What you can do is measure the pull and add a spacer if you need extra length.

$125 for one of the finest pump shotguns ever! You did well! Shoot it, cherish it.

I don't know why the value of Model 12s is not 2-3X what they are. IMO its among the best pump shotguns ever made. You made a great find, Imp Cy is very desirable in any shotgun. I inherited this 16 ga. from my late Uncle. He gave it to me while he was still living some 40 years ago. It is my most cherished possession AND not for sale at any price.

Nice, looks a lot like the one my grandfather left me, a 16 ga, solid rib 28" barrel. This was his turkey gun so it's a full choke.

A bit of TLC and you'll have a gun worthy of handing down to your favorite grandson/daughter someday!

ya know, I'm not a shot gun guy but I would have gladly bought that gun for a "buck and a quarter" myself.
