Has Ruger ever made an attractive, iconic firearm?

Nobody likes Redhawks?
I love Redhawks, both for shooting and for looking at.

If you want to spend alot of cash it takes three things pretty, reliable and well built. I will trade off one of these to a certain price point. Pretty is not a form of function for me. I once was told that a Ruger was a poor mans working tool. I guess I am a poor man at least three dozen times over. Seriously how many Blackhawks can one buy for the price of an original Colt SAA, that will outperform that SAA day in and day out for many many years to come. Copying a concept and improving upon it is NOT just copying something for the sake of copying. YMMV

Exactly. I've been handloading for many years. Therefore I have a lot of handloading manuals, and I've never seen any "Colt Only" loads in any of them.:D
Yet before I got so old and crippled up (and probably a bit wiser) I used to run "Ruger Only" loads through my Ruger revolvers quite often. And those old Ruger revolvers still work great.:)

The Redhawk is one of the better looking Ruger originals. I also think the Mark series pistol with a heavy barrel is really good looking, even moreso than the Luger or Nambu. Derivative yes, but I don't think the Nambu or Luger ever came with a heavy barrel so I'll give Ruger credit for that at least (yeah I know, a third party probably fitted a heavy barrel to one of their pistols long before Ruger started building them at the factory).

The No. 1 may be a contender... Ironically, the first firearm he designed. Possibly should have stopped there.

Uh, no. The first was the Ruger Standard .22 pistol in 1949, which launched the company. The single action revolvers started in the 1950s, then came the M .44 (1961), 10/22 (1964), No. 1 (1967) and M77 (1968). So there is no irony - at least not the way you meant it...

.

Another vote for the M77 RSI. That's a handsome little carbine. Not a fan of the bail-style sling ring on the fore end, though.

What a question! The original single six. The number one. The number three. 10-22 International. The Speed SIx. The 77.
Add in the innovation factor and they have leapfrogged Colt who seems to be trying to relive past glory.

Looking at my safe, I have more Rugers than any other brand...probably because Ruger made a wider variety of firearms than any other single brand (Autos, DA and SA revolvers, OU shotguns, rimfire and centerfire rifles, etc.)

My beautiful Rugers? I think I have a few, others surely may disagree which is perfectly OK. :)

The 28 ga Red Label OU is downright svelte and sexy...I have a tang-safety (red pad) M-77 RSI in .243 with a Leupold scope that I find beautiful...I just ordered a stainless/walnut 10-22 RSI that looks awesome as well...The stainless .41 Redhawk 7.5" and the 4 5/8 .45 Colt Vaquero are two handguns that I find rather attractive...hmmm, the blued Mk II Govt Target with the 6.5" bull barrel is a Ruger semi- auto that has perfect lines for a.22 target pistol IMHO....;)

None of these are engraved, have ivory grips or are otherwise embellished beyond how they came from the factory. As far as I see it beauty, and hand in hand with it goes function and usefulness, are truly in the eye of the beholder.

Stay safe.

Most Ruger longarms are quite attractive -- the No. 1, the M77, Deerslayer/Deerstalker, the Red Label, yes, even the 10-22 and the Mini-14 (a stainless wood-stocked Mini is among the most attractive "military-style" semi-autos ever made, in my opinion). Most Ruger handguns? Not so much (with some notable exceptions). Ruger has never made a centerfire semi-auto that appeals to me (with the exception of their 1911's, which look like everybody else's 1911's). That being said, I loved my Old Model Vaquero (still kicking myself for selling it), and I do have a couple other Ruger revolvers. They may not be the prettiest guns in my safe, but they do the job.

The M77 is basically a mauser.

I would say the Standard/MK series is in a league of its own. While it holds the same lines as a Luger it isn't one. I could see how you’d make the argument its piggy backing on the post war/luger image however.

Agreed with the general sentiment.

Too subjective. Eye of the beholder. Bill's best looking firearms were copies.

Great company though. Always innovating (after Bill passed). Turning out new models. New platforms. Affordable. Tough. Cheap to boot. Great CS in my experience.
