So the 11 year old got his varmint rifle for Christmas, but has been pushing off the idea of putting it to work.....he LOVES plinking with it, but not much thrill for prairie dog popping. Today, I finally got him coaxed to go after the lil buggers. Him actually using his gun makes it easier to justify more components and dies etc, so this in and of itself is a big win, but he sent probably 25 rounds downrange today over the course of at least an hour. We had winds rotating with us as we changed positions regularly, and I was extremely proud of how quickly he adapted his wind holds. On the few misses he had, they were too small of a miss to matter, several good flips and one beautiful shot that sent the prairie flat sideways 15 fit tore in half. His shots ranged from 75- 300 yds with wind from all directions 5-25 mph. Even at the longest shots with a 10-11 wind, he wasn't missing by more than an inch or two! It was a good day and he's decided he's got plenty more pdogs to pop and then coyotes this winter to pay for a new scope! Was too good of a win not to share!
Then of course he has to play with my .357 sp101...... I'll be lucky if he doesn't steal that one...
