Stopped by a small gun shop in a town I am doing some work in and found a SBH 44 Mag. 4.5ish inch barrel. In about 80-85% condition. Some bluing wear near the muzzle but overall very nice.
I have absolutely no need for a 44 mag but I've had my eyes open for a flat top 44 Spc. lately.
Judging by the asking prices on GB this one is a steal at sub $500 price tag.
So please talk me off the cliff.

The most out of spec chamber throat to forcing cone revolver I’ve ever owned was a Super Blackhawk. Not saying that my experience is representative of all Super Blackhawks, but you’re asking to be talked out of it, so negative anecdotes are fair game. :)

Also, you plan to hand load for it? If you don’t already shoot 44 special or 44 magnum, have you considered the cost of adding another cartridge into your life?

Yes I've considered the ups and downs of adding another cartridge to my inventory. That's the problem. I'm already invested in 45 Colt so I can easily equal 44Spc and get close to 44 Mag with that. And therein lies my dilema.

Bro, .45 Colt is my jam as well, and I actually left .44 special and magnum years ago in favor of .45 Colt.

That settles it for me. You don’t need this SBH in your life.

With that said , you do need a sbh but this one-

That way all you can still shoot 45 colt or use the components & dies you likely already have, just get some brass.

-you will NEVER save money asking for advice around here. Biggest bunch of enablers I've ever met.

Wait to find the .44 special flat top! I have a standard Blackhawk also but the flattop 44 is much nice to carry around.

Since it's really a .429 magnum, don't do it. It's a poser. One that will illicit constant chastising and bad luck. Women will laugh at you. You'll likely get furloughed at work. And your dog will bring you your wife's slippers.

Actually, it sounds like a heckuva deal and the .44 is tried and true. Great caliber that's been around and will forever be around. Buy the dam gun.

Wrong forum.

Heavy loads are a hoot, and it sounds like it's not too heavy for light loads to be fun too. Buy it.

I even hunt carpenter bees and hornets with mine.

I started with the 44 Mag many years ago. I like the 4 Mag (okay, the 429 Mag) very much. I have , well, let's just say several, firearms chambered in 44 Mag; to include shoulder and handguns.

I was talking a buddy of mine a few days ago, he is heavy in 45 Colt, he was thinking about a Ruger Alaskan in 454 Casull. During the conversion, I told him that if I were to start over, I would invest in the 45 Colt rather than 44 Mag.

I don't know which of us was more surprised at the statement, him or myself.

This was the long way around, but my thoughts are this; if you want it buy it. If you want it as a 44 Spl, wait for the 44 Spl.
With the advent o the 454 Casull, and Bill Ruger, one would be hard pressed to find something the 44 Mag can do that the 45 Colt cannot.
You're already tooled up for the 45 Colt. Stick with it.

My .44mag SBH is one of my favorite range guns. Seriously. I can load ammo from plinking light to wrist snapping heavy-- and its a hoot to shoot either way. I've never shot a Bisley grip, but I don't find the standard "plough handle" grip objectionable at all (once I learned to let the grip rotate up in my hand). I did bang up my middle finger on the trigger guard the first time I shot it. Never happened again.
