Hi all!

A friend of mine is wanting to sell a couple of pistols. I was able to pull some rough valuations out of Gun Digest but his Blackhawk in 44 has me a bit stumped due to it's age.

What he has is a Ruger Blackhawk in 44 Magnum. The serial # is 55XX. It has a 6 1/2" barrel and overall is in about a conservative 90-95% condition with a bit of a cylinder line and some holster wear at the muzzle.

Here are a couple quick pictures I snapped.

The other pistol is a Ruger Single Six in 22. It's seen some good use and has some nicks, dings, and the usual assortment of scratches. Overall I'd rate it somewhere around 80-85% on a conservative guess.

Here is a picture of it.

What I need is a reasonable idea of the value of each of the pistols, especially the 44. My buddy is looking to sell them to fund a Garand.

Any help is appreciated.

Single Action Pricing

dave5339: I can get you close on the Single Six? no I can't; darn'it
Serial # would help. New model $175.00-$225.00
old model ?not upgraded? ?250.00+-

More info on the .44 Probably an old Model made ?between 1957-1960? too broad of a range.

contact Ruger @603-865-2424. A very nice "lady" will answer your questions and send to you "free" Letter on the unit.

If it hasn't been altered DO NOT SEND to RUGER for the UPGRADE.
It will devalue you firearm significantly. Upgraded $400.00+- good
Old Style with letter unaltered $450.00+++

follow up with what you find. Thanks

Without a doubt, grab that Blackhawk before word gets out what it is and where it's at. I just checked on one at Gunbroker and looks very much in the same condition as your friends, and it's currently at $700. It has a buy it now price of $800. The Single Six can be anywhere from $200 to $275.

Yep that old .44 Flat top with good fiddle back in the grips is exceptional condition and could be worth $1000 to the right person. Hope the hammer has 4 clicks to cock and hasn't been "upgraded" !
This was the best handling SA gun Ruger made, they make the best carry single actions ever.
The Single six is also an oldie of about the same early 60s late 50s vintage. It is worth a good $300 in that condition.
So get about $600 cash and go and make a quick score!

OMG! You didn't buy that flat-top immediately??? DUDE!!!

That's the best thing Ruger ever made! As far as the Single Six goes, we really need to know the serial number. If its a flat gate $350 minimum.

the 44 ruger is close to $1000 if not more because of the condition and it's a 4 digit serial number. Check to see if it has been safety converted by the factory. It will have a transfer bar safety and an r stamped on the frame somewhere. I'd say anything under a $1000 would be a steal.

FWIW, I have seen the pistol, (Dave5339 being my better half and all) and it is in original configuration--as in, NO transfer bar!

I didn't look at the Single six much though co I can't help out there...

It doesn't have the transfer bar safety that I could see, and I did not see an "R" stamped anywhere that I saw.

If single action 44's were my thing I might have picked it up from him but I don't have the cash necessary for the deal.

And as to grabbing it cheap, I just couldn't do that to a friend and feel right about it. Not my way of doing business.

I do believe this pistol will be coming up on the market soon. It will be offered for sale in the DFW area as a FTF transaction more than likely. Given the interest and potential value though I may suggest to my buddy that he consider opening it up to out of state sales.

And rest assured, I'll make sure it gets posted up here also.

Ask about these over on Ruger Forum and you'll get all the info you need. VERY good chance you'll find a waiting line of buyers there as well.

Ruger Letter

dave5339: Lost this thread. Your serial # indicates that your friend probably has
1964-1965 model Magnum.

Before you get to far along have your friend call Ruger and get a letter from them. Ruger provides this FREE of charge.

Ruger 603-865-2424 get this letter, and there is no doubt.
Follow up with what you find and Thanks.

My buddy has a request into Ruger for letters currently.

He's also located the missing cylinder for the Single Six.

Both pistols have not been modified or back to the factory for any upgrades.

Thanks so much for your assistance.

cylinder

dave5339: Probably not another cylinder. He has a magnum. Unless I'm mistaken it came with 1 cylinder: Mag.
Questions like yours is how we are able to keep up with different models, and part of why I tend to follow along, and ask about following up.

Thanks;
