Woodman's Pal
I have no problem with bill hooks or the various patterns of machete. A sharp edge or hook facing backswing seems needlessly risky, however and both functions are crippled to some degree when combined. The glossy oak handle with finger grooves and leather sure looks nice though. That's a tried and proven tool. It is an adaptation of the bill. It is a very successful tool.
This is what they call a 'pandy-bat' in the Society for Creative Anachronism:
Any weapon or device that is more of a hazard to the wielder than to the target.
Y'all must not like having to put on a glove...I like the top quality hand grips. I have always found cord wrapped handles to be totally worthless, whether thay are on the kind of crap knife or a high dollar Strider POS.
Cards. Right. That thing reminds me of something my friends and I would have come up with after a night of cards. We devised such weapons as the sword-nunchucks, chainsaw-nunchucks, quad bit axe (double bit head on each end of the handle), a "self returning" throwing knife (knife with an attached bungie cord), and some others I can't recall. The weapons were not very safe for the target or user most of the time.
I actually use those for clearing brush, tho the local ones usually have a much larger hook. If you wack yourself with the back of your brush knife your doing something wrong lol.The hits just keep coming. Maybe this would be a good thread to share wacky designs for edged implements. I'll nominate the Woodman's Pal:(link to Amazon image) https://www.amazon.com/Woodmans-Pal...9Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=
It has been around since early 40s, so must meet a need for some folks.
