But can you hit with precision, from field positions, with a bullet that will fly flat enough to hit, hit hard enough to kill quickly, and penetrate deep enough to break heavy bone and exit?

I would be remiss not to answer and the answer is yes, as can nearly anyone in the family. No ranch hunts, petting zoos or vacation home blinds for us. We practice, we kill quickly, we clean, we process, we eat.

My apologies for the graphic shots depicting what bullets do to flesh and bone.

Lasered at 94 yards after a DRT (second one ran back and stood over the first), one kneeling with monopod, mine sitting unsupported (made a quick shot).

40 yards sitting. Yes even my mom can handle the recoil from 100 gr of Pyrodex and still does in her seventies.

Nice collection of dead stuff, they look delicious!

Of its a 3006 recoil and down I prefer a hard/metal but plate. They tend to be a shorter lop which fits me better.

(LoP) + (Chopsaw) - (1" of buttstock) + ($5 Gun Show Pachmayr F325 Deluxe 1" Field Recoil Pad Grind to Fit) = (Perfect LoP)(Cadillac ride)

...even on a .270 WCF.

150's in a .30-06 or lesser, I don't mind a buttplate.
Even for summer T shirt bench shooting.

I do have a couple red specks on my shoulder from yesterdays shooting.
Been a while since that feeling. Used to be weekly.

Kinda miss it.

Its shooting. Sometimes ya get bumped around.
Life throws harder lumps, man up and get used to it (recoil and life, to a certain extent).

Not saying one has to be into extreme pain, but recoil and a bit of fatigue or tenderness, is a right of passage.
Unless one wants to raise their kids to be wimps.

Must say, I HATE it when Fudds give a kid an H&R 12 ga.
Pounding somebody senseless, or getting scope eye...........is flat out wrong.
Its sick.

However, a little recoil, learning to shoot w it...........is a right of passage.
Unless you're wanting to raise man bun skinny jeans types.

Rem 600's kinda suck stock wise. My ol lady shot hot 70 gr loads in one, .243 win, in a T shirt, prone.
And she shot 1.5" and less groups at 135 yards. And she hardly shoots.
Didn't even phase her.

Know lots of guys that shoot thumpers.
Hey man, its fun and whatever floats ones boat

But I do wonder about retina risk.
Think that got ol John Wooters.

So in general, lesser recoil is a good thing.
Still think in many instances the differences hyped.

Shot the 77 mkII all weather. Supposed to be brutal.

Wasnt

Raking the yard today, yeah i could feel it LOL.

Felt good. Means I did something

Read Oconnnor and Carmichael as a kid.
Buddy had a BDL in .270.
Didnt wow me.

Nothing wrong with a one gun do it all.

Sounds kinda boring to me.

Again, skip the .270 and gimme a .25-06 and a 7 mag ;)

I only hunt with one rifle........at a time:D
I started deer hunting with an 8x57 K98 that had a 1.5 x Weaver on it and a bent bolt. Never saw a one. It was a long time ago and deer here were scarce.
Got a little money and bought an M77 RL in .270. It turned out to be the one. Got pretty good with it. Seven years with one shots.
Bought a 760 in .30-06 from a friend who needed some $$. Hunted with it a couple of years and then gave it to my Arkansas grandson - who loves it and gave up his other stuff over it.
Hunted a year or two with a M-38 6.5X55. Good rifle but not as good as the M77.
Stopped looking back or around about 20 years ago and went with boring always that good.
Not sorry.

If one wants a recoil pad on a non pad 700....just buy a magnum stock.
The pad is fitted and says "Remington" on it.
And is black.
The pads work well too.
Pick up one w some character and you can hunt it without worry, save your orig.

Everything I've shot w/ mine...?

... was color blind.

... and couldn't read, anyway.

The .277" ABLR 150 gr. will work in the std. .270 Win. 1:10 twist.

Nosler - say 1:9 twist for the ABLR 150 gr. bullet.

But, according to actual field tests:

Note:
Old Factory BC: G1 = 0.625/G7 = 0.317
New Factory BC: G1 = 0.591/G7 = 0.298

Tested 1:10 twist BC: G1 = 0.543/G7 = 0.278

LRAB.png

... the .277" ABLR 150 gr. sheds just ~ 7% of its BC, while retaining good accuracy.

This is still a slippery bullet, w/ a BC(G1) > 0.100, (or 50 fps/100 yds.) compared to the NP 150 gr..

NOTE: The Patriot Revere - has a 24" Bbl.

JB-TABLE.jpg

~ 3,000 fps/1.0 MOA (ABLR 150 gr.)... from a .270 WCF/22" Bbl...?!?

Gott im Himmel!
