Bought a new Ruger Blackhawk Bisley last night. Problem is....it's in 480 Ruger. It has a 6.5" barrel and holds 5.

I wanted to get a 454 Casull, but convinced myself that I will get a 454 Casull......when I can finally find one in a year or two!

In the meantime, I'm excited to try the 480. Well, I'll try it as soon as I can find some ammo for it and that's going to be a bit of a problem....

Oh, aren't the COVID, Shutdown, Biden times wonderful?!?

Anyways, happy weekend fellow firearm enthusiasts.

I think you will like that one enough that it will make you forget about the 454 Casull for at least a little bit.

I think you're right. The reason I wanted a 454 Casull was just because it's both easier to find reloading components and there are more options when it comes to bullet weight. But I'm sure the 480 will be an excellent caliber and the Blackhawk will be fun to shoot.

Plus, I just found three boxes of ammo at Bass Pro. They look like they've been sitting on the shelf for 10 years. One box is taped together :)

I just purchased the same thing a couple weeks ago. I really like it , but I also know I am in the honeymoon phase with it. I have a SRH in 454 Casull and really like this caliber better so far. I am anxiously awaiting MP molds to do another run on the 477-640 but for now I am running the Lee 476-400 powdercoated and am having good luck with it.

480 ruger is an awesome cartridge. Awesome.
454 casull is my personal preference just because (as you mentioned) the variety of components . you should be able to keep the 480 well fed through the tough times though because there's not so much of a run on the pieces . the 454 super blackhawk has been tough to get long before covid and all this mess, if you really want one bad enough spend the extra money and get a freedom arms, trust me they're worth every penny.
I love my 5" super redhawk in 454 (toklat) and I recommend you take a look at them, the weight takes the recoil pretty well and it's a 6 shot. There's nothing but time, find what works for you and enjoy. If you decide to sell that 480 it should be no problem to a guy in the know, if that day comes let me know, I'm guessing you'll keep it though. That's a mild mannered powerhouse that will do anything you could need.
Enjoy.

I bid on one several weeks ago, but it went well beyond my limit and was sold to another bidder. I have a 454 SRH but shooting it with full pwered 300 gr loads is, to be kind, spirited.

That is one really sweet looking Bisley! I only have one Bisley-framed Blackhawk, but I think that frame is the most comfy one around, :)

Good luck finding loads that work for you, show us how it shoots when you find a few

Stay safe.

All you need is brass and a bullet mold. Looks like you have plenty of brass. I'd love to have a 480.
