Yeah good grab on that mannlicher and scope, only wish I could find that deal when I have money lol. I did get my 7x57 ruger 77ts cheap, seen some on gb for $1500+I love Mannlichers. But I don’t love that Mannlicher. If I were going for something slightly different, I agree with @troy fairweather. An FN Mauser would be nice. I have one in 270 I bought a few years ago for like $400. I stole the damn thing. It doesn’t like ANYTHING over 150gr bullets. Shoots 130gr Sierra’s over 4064 at an inch or slightly under an inch on a really good day. But it shoots 90gr Speers that cloverleaf (3 shots). They are really nice rifles. Another different rifle would be an Interarms Mark X. You can get them in a traditional or Mannlicher stock. I bought a Mannlicher 2 years ago in 308 with a Leupold QDMA 3-9x40 for $450. The gun is 98-99%. Being a Mannlicher, it’s not exceptionally accurate. But I haven’t worked up any loads for it. Just shooting factory ammo, it’s a 1.75”-2” gun right now. I think I can cut that by 1/2” with the right load. Sorry for the crappy pic. I’m going to remedy this with all my rifles soon.

If at the end of the day, you really like that Parker and want it, buy it. Somebody liked it once. Someone is bound to like it again. Maybe that person is you.
Not a bad idea. As of now the process is, walk out, set up coyote call, sit down, get comfy and hope something shows up.Holy Moly!! That thing needs a vehicle mount!

Here is one of my .243's, a Golden Age SAKO Forester with varmint wt. barrel. My other .243's are too ugly to pose for pics..View attachment 975532 View attachment 975533
FWIW, my 243 is a Savage model 110. I learned to love the accuracy, but it probably weighs close to 10 lbs slung and scoped and is a pain to pack around. Not a bad gun, but overbuilt for what it is IMO.
I didn't have a favorite .243 when I opened this thread, but I do now!My new favorite .243 for the last couple years is a Mannlicher Schoenauer model 1961 full stocked carbine which I put a Zeiss HD5 3-15x42 Conquest on in the factory mounts instead of the 4x old Redfield it came with. It is perfect and I won't sell it, I'll bet I can still handle it at 90 !

Sako 243's have a devoted following all their own.The only .243 I currently in the safe is a remington 700, which is my wifes gun.
Of the .243s ive used, my favorite is my mother inlaws Sako 579 Forester.
I sure love the CZ 550’s. Especially the FS. I honestly wish I would have chosen a different caliber like 243 for mine. It shoots well. But there does come a point where it starts to get redundant. My only .243 is the CZ 550 on the near side. It sometimes wears a scope, sometimes not.

We call that fishing.......Or not. Walk out, set up the call, sit down, get comfy, crack a brewski, and hope nothing shows up.
Actually I believe the U-9 is a BSA action, the J-9 was the Mauser action, it’s a Zestava, same thing as the MK-X. I’ve got a U-9 30-06 Deluxe version, great guns, the J-9s are fine guns too, about the same thing as a Parker-Hale. The Parker-Hale is built on a Spanish built Santa Barbra Mauser action. Nice guns, but I wouldn’t take that thing as a gift if I had to keep it and use it! I bought the Sako instead of the Parker-Hale at the Rod and Gun club at Patch Barracks in Stuttgart in 1972. No regrets!Believe it or not, my very favorite .243 was a Herters U9, commercial mauser action, beautiful wood, 24" pencil bbl. Very accurate and uncommonly twisted to like 100 gr projectiles, the real plus was the added action length to set bullets well out of the case to the optimum leade engagement and still work in the magazine, unlike my next favourite, an old beater 788 Remington

I hope you’re talking about the rifle. Otherwise grandpa is probably in trouble.Picked up another savage m11 in 243 win for my granddaughter to hunt with, not the prettiest girl at the party but does have some redeeming qualities
Lol I thought the same when I first read it.I hope you’re talking about the rifle. Otherwise grandpa is probably in trouble.
