Things I do to save money

And now they have the half sheets scored in half perpendicularly. So, I can get a quarter sheet for the small jobs!

And, I thought I was the only one doing this!
Maybe you can outdo Cheryl Crow and wipe you little bottom using only one sheet of toilet paper. She must have learned that in the Corps....ie sticking your finger thru it and using the little piece to clean your fingernail....

I have no debt. Haven't owed anyone anything for at least a decade. Fixed expenses are property taxes, utilities and phone. We don't own a tv and currently my work from home significant other takes care of the internet expense. When that goes away I'll probably drop the internet. I reload but it doesn't save me any money.

When you don't have enough $ and stuff you worry. When you have too much stuff and $ you worry. Can't win.

We live a modest life style thus we are able deposit part of our income into savings. The residence has been paid off for fifteen years now and our last vehicle we paid cash for. We also realize that being a senior citizen is not for the faint of heart bur it beats the alterative.

While, I learned that TP lesson in the Corps, I thankfully, haven't had to use that particular skill yet.
One good thing about MREs, you don't need to go often.
I actually still have 2 of my original 1982 Boot Camp C-Rat issue "P-38 / John Wayne's" can openers on two of my key rings.

I save money by wearing clothes at home that my ex would have thrown out 5-10 years earlier. Going out I dress decently to avoid folks handing me money along with “You poor man!”

Three for $1, no Five for $1, no ten for $1.

I never understood how they could sell so many for so little. lol

Always kept some cups of instant ramen in my desk in case I had to work late. Luckily, our office water cooler also had a hot water spout.
I'm so cheap I don't even put water on mine!

Your medical bills will offset the savings.
Hasn't THAT come to be a scary thing about Ramen?

I stopped buying it a couple of years ago behind the reports.

Todd.

To be fair I eat it because I like it, I might eat one or two things of saimin a month.
My favorite way to eat it is fried with spam, bacon and other stuff.
Tho every now and then straight out the package with half the seasoning pack on it, Just like little kid days.

Actually when I really was broke $0.49 McDonald's cheeseburgers and tomato soup made from the ketchup pump, or packets, was I usually rolled.
That or miso soup.......

I have never understood Hawaii's continued obsession with Spam. More Spam is sold there than any other state.

I realize there is some historical basis, GI's getting Spam during WWII and some filtering down to the local population, but that was 75 years ago.

Spam Musubi, no thanks. Spam and eggs, no thanks. Spam fried rice, no thanks. lol

It's cuz it's delicious!!!:p I have a friend who'll eat the spam and rice but absolutely hates the smell of the nori in musubi.....

Stuff's not cheap anymore either with 3.80 a can. until recently it was a real question whether or not I bought a box in 9 mm/556, or a can of spam...... Thankfully Vienna sausages haven't changed much in cost....

@LoonWulf
I'm no health nut, but I draw the line at trying to save money by buying highly salted, high fat content, processed meats.

Ramen noodles laugh at Spam and Vienna Sausages in regards to healthy food. lol

Not a tremendous fish lover, but there should be lots of healthy fish in HI. Whether it's considered economical there I don't know, but easy enough to catch your own there as I found out.

Have one guy like this and you won't even need a flip flop to throw down.

960 × 960

Cant disagree with that! Blood pressure, hear disease, diabetes....yeah those are common issues, tho less so now than they were a generation ago it seems.
Spam and other stuff like that has become something of a luxury food. You can still make a cheap meal out of it, but its two heads of cabbage to one can of spam and a whole pot of rice as filler.
Im honestly not kidding about eating tomato soup and cheeseburgers, they were cheap and I liked them. I used to fish quite a bit, and hunt quite a bit to help offset living costs.
So now when I eat stuff its cause i actually LIKE it lol.

It also always amazed me when people would go hungry here, theres literally FOOD everywhere......just might not be what one wants at the time.

Yup, used to buy a couple of bags of those rascals when McDonalds would have the inventory reduction sales (my assumption on the motives) and I'd throw them in the freezer.

Same with White Castle sale burgers.

Saved a LOT of money when money was as rare a thing as a politician's integrity.

And SPAM? yes please. To this day.

I haven't eaten Spam for over 40 years, maybe longer. What I like to do is use those "Knorr (formerly Lipton) Noodle Sides" and I'll use either some canned chicken (in winter), grilled chicken breast (summer), canned ham, ground beef, pork sausage, frozen meatballs, or hot dogs, in assorted flavorings of these noodle dishes. I have also added - on occasion - some canned peas and corn, or broccoli, to the dish and made a 1-pot stovetop casserole.

I’m not signed in either, but you can still see it for a second.

To save anyone the trouble, the photo is of a guy with a yardstick tattoo on his leg. It seems it’s common to drop a flip flop next to a fish in HI to give an idea of size in a picture.

With that guy handy, you wouldn’t need to do it.

For decades we have bought used Hondas and repair ‘em until we can’t; a 2009 Odyssey and a 2012 CRV. Going strong. Own them both.

Paid off the house, no mortgage payment.

Don’t eat out much. Made a bargain with my wife, who is a gourmet cook: she cooks, I clean the dishes and kitchen. Damn fine arrangement.

I cast my own bullets, reload my own center fire cartridges and shotshells. I can barter for .22 LR when I want some.

Probably the smartest move was having separate checking accounts. I don’t begrudge her purchases, she does not complain about mine. Going on 51 years together, so it has worked for us.

Just got back from grocery store. Prices are going up. You may save money by being frugal but others may have already decided how you will spend it.

I make 3 or 4 pb&js for lunch and 1 or 2 ham sandwiches for my work week. It's the good stuff though, not the basic $1 loaf of bread. But it's still way cheaper than most of the guys that go out to eat everyday. I buy a $6 bag of variety pack of potato chips to go with it and that's my lunch.

06A81916-5DA0-494A-AB21-EF8B06A3CE24.jpeg I guess it's a cost saving, but in the last year or so I started baking my own bread and it's the only bread we eat now.

More of an offshoot of my desire to be a better cook and consumer. I can control exactly what goes in it, so also a health thing.

Nothing like a crusty bread fresh out of the oven. Fun to experiment with different ingredients too, this one has Trader Joe's Everything Bagel seasoning inside and out.
