I was getting leading in my SW 25 with harder cast boolets.

I spoke with Donnie Summers awhile back. If he makes BHN 12 for cowboy loads. He does not. I explained what was going on with my SW 25. And how BHN 12 cast solved it. He said i should not have any problems with his boolets. He said don't be afraid to give them a good crimp. So today i shot 18 rounds of his 230 grain coated cast. Load was 9 grains of unique. When i got home and checked the bore. It was clean as whistle. I was real happy with seeing a clean bore. His prices are better than Missouri bullets. Nice guy to chat with too. We chatted about a few things. He said call any time.

Figured posting may help some others avoid some headaches.

Redding’s Profile Crimp Die is excellent for the Magnum calibers. A heavy crimp is mandatory in all magnum revolvers to prevent the bullets in the cylinders from dislodging from the case during heavy recoil.

I heavy crimp EVERYTHING! If I could crimp my crimp I would crimp it!

Everyone talking neck tension nonsense!!! Super CRIMP!

Let me know how that does at 600...;)

I don’t crimp everything, but for that which I crimp, I know why I do it, and how much.

(Hint: it’s an inch measurement...:D)

All fun aside, I know that crimps are not necessary if you seat bullets to where they are just touching the lands in the barrel (on bottleneck cases). Heavy magnums are a different animal altogether

Heavy crimp. "I put that sh*t on everything.";) I get more consistent ignition, and better accuracy. .44 mag, .45 Colt, 45/70 and .458 Win Mag.
I was getting bad Squid loads with my .460. Old guy at the range said you need crimp the living daylights out of it... never had a Squid load again

Anything that goes in a revolver or tube magazine gets a proper roll crimp. I define proper as I can see it and feel it with a thumbnail. Guns with box magazines or en bloc clips are different.

Redding Profile Crimp dies make magnum revolver rounds MUCH more accurate. If you haven’t tried it, you will find it is in every way superior to a traditional roll crimp. My Ruger revolvers will print cloverleafs all day at 25 yards with iron sights if I do my part. Give it a try

I’ll look into it
