So my wife wanted to go to the weekly flea market in Dickson City PA this morning, to find summer clothes for our newest grandson. It's about an hours drive, but what the heck we do stuff like that all the time. We entered, after parking her Sante Fe, the number of vendors was lighter than usual, bit started at the bottom row it only had a couple vendors, but saw what looked like an all steel scope tube, at the same time my wife spotted baby clothes, good I can check it out. Low and behold it's a vintage Weaver V9. Power ring turns, so adjusts for clarity, thin wire rectical in tact, has its steel turret caps, but shows signs of use, rust spots under the ring marks, a few scratches and a small section of the eyebell threads missing. I bought it despite some condition issues, i don't even have a rifle to mount it on to test it out, but realized that a lot of shooters want vintage optics for their vintage rifles cause it finishes them, looks right and is period correct.

Those are neat old scopes. Ive used, and often still get handed rifles with them when borrowing, those quite a bit. You might be able ro pick up a damaged one to steal parts from fairly cheaply. Usually thr "broken" ones can be had for 30-40 bucks.

Want your money back? :D I'm kidding of course, but I've been dying to find a nice Weaver K8 or K10 for my old Savage 222. Sadly none to be had around here, and the only one's I've found online have been priced at $150 or better. Good luck with it, hope you find a nice vintage rifle to put it on soon!

Mac

I haven't bought a new, new to me, rifle since last summer, a savage m11 243 win from @troy fairweather's dad. It has a vintage, Philippine made, Bushnell banner 4 -12 x 40 ao mounted on top of it, picked it up for my granddaughter to hunt with. Wife was kind of upset because I hadn't specifically talked to her about it, but the price was right and with handloads shoots sub moa.

So my getting another "vintage" rifle probably won't happen any time soon.

I've had a couple soldy m88 Winchester in 308 1957, Winchester m1 garand 1954, and gave away a Winchester model 670, 3006, from the mid 80's. The garand went to a buddy getting into ww2 reenactments, the 670 resides in my SIL's gunsafe and currently wears a Leupold vxii 3-9x40 that replaced a Bushnell 3200 elite 3 - 9 x 40.

Looks like it still works!

Definitely still works, shot at both 25 and 50 yds at 9x and could read the fine print on those dirtybirb targets. Even with my aging eyes.

Oh come on!! Trade that junk off for the latest greatest newbie/hipster/macho/tactical modern stuff. What is wrong with you!!!:neener:

I might do that if I was a newbie, but since I've been shooting for half a century new famgled tactical doesn't quite do it for me.

Although newer, large objective, effective bdc's, do have a place in my safe.

Steel tube, glass lenses, no batteries required.
Obviously doesn't have a USB port.
That V9 is so mid 20th century.

For the record, my early 1960 vintage Marlin 39A Mountie wears a 1950s vintage steel and glass B4 riflescope.
