I was looking at the new gloss duracoat but I have some good luck with spray enamel and low temp baking in projects. I just have to be careful stripping the Agent due to the aluminum frame. It’s not uncommon for them to look ratty from carrying the original finish on the frames was never very durable anyway.

Only cylinder and barrel can be blued, frame is aluminum and was originally anodized.
The Colt is made to carry! Give it a Metalife finish from Mahovsky that will wear like iron and look like stainless steel. Cost the same as rebluing typically.
Yup, those Colt factory finishes were pretty but prone to wear. My wife's Cobra has two shiny lines of aluminum where it rubbed between the car seats. You can strip most enamels off aluminum with MEK or acetone and a long soak. I wouldn't scrub or use anything more abrasive than a red Scotch-Brite pad and some Flitz. In fact, after a long soak in acetone, try rubbing any remaining paint off with a car cloth and Flitz. It will probably come up clean and you can polycoat or powder-coat pretty easily. Best of luck.
Frame says, Model 66, I believe you are correct about the first ones having SS sight, I have to look at the serial number. I also have a -2 that is recessed but not pinned, another anomaly
