I just got relocated to Southern Arizona where I belong. Kid went North I went South. I finally got my shop set up so I can take in some tuning work or other black powder gunsmith work. I bet the Kid moves South again before too many moons.
Welcome to Arizona. Where did you move to?

Fairly quite, doesn't change much. Occasional crackhead and hobo in town and a few illegals stumble through but not real often.

No idea what you mean by that, I can see Juarez from my house. I can tell you, trouble only finds you if you go looking for it. I grew up amongst the muck and mire that was Juarez in the mid 2000's, and I can tell you, it's nowhere nearly as bad as it was. Man, I can tell you the sounds a man makes when he's gutted in his own home, or the smell of man being boiled in a barrel of grease. At least, the Juarez/El Paso area ain't been that bad in just over a decade.

Man oh man! And I thought New Jersey was bad! :what: ( Have since escaped to Florida...)

He is wayyyyyyyyy up Hereeeeeeeee in Southeast alaska. prolly building his iglo and driving off penguins as we speak with a six shooter in each hand wearing a sombrero ...

Besides what he already knows about revolvers, he is going to learn about the Hunt and subsistance in a very remote and wild alaskan place. He is living the dream, but it takes a while to get there...

so the Op asked... has anybody seen the kid?

I have..

AlaskanGuy= Please ask The Kid to check his PM's. He forgot to return one of my BP revolvers. He informed me quite a while ago that he finished it. I paid him for it but have not received it back yet. I am sure he just forgot because of the move.

AlaskanGuy, please ask him to contact me too as he was working on a gun for me also.
Thanks

OH CRAP! I am starting to get a bad feeling about this... I wonder how many of us are involved ? Still hoping he is just still busy moving.

I went to Stanley Idaho for my 65th birthday. Sitting in a hot spring watching the sun come up and it was 48 degrees on the end of July. My kinda place.
Stanley in 1st week of August; in a snow blizzard!!
Wife's from ID: wish n we were there right now instead of MD!!!

Hey everyone! Im alive! I have moved to Alaska ..wasnt supposed to move till late July but when I visited the first week of may i had gotten a job offer but they needed me there by first week of june. So i had to pack up everything and rush my move. It was horrible and intense. I had obstacle after obstacle....everything from medical, rip off land lords, to downright racial profiling (im sure alaskanguy can recant the tale of my adventure at the airport...he thinks its funny...and I can laugh about it now). After arriving I was in for one of the worst experiences ever...my 5 year old autistic daughter stressed so bad that she quit eating and taking in fluids for a whole week, we stressed so much and almost had to get her admitted to sedate and have fluids and nutrients pumped into her...which would be bad as it would have stressed and traumatized her even more so. It took such a toll on me seeing her get so frail and weak to where she would barely stand and her big brown eyes sink into her beautiful face. It really did a number on me. After days and hours of prayer and dozens of different foods and methods to feed her she started eating and drinking little by little on her own. Shes still stressed a bit but is starting to open up ...but still needs to gain a little more of her weight back. I am so lucky and appreciative that alaskanguy and his wife are local and were able to help me with her and just about everything else getting everything settled. They are lifesavers and helped keep me afloat. I cannot thank them enough. I am definitely in their debt. Took a while for me to get internet at my place as its very expensive...and when I tried to log on it said my password was wrong etc so i had to get an old cell that had my password saved in order to log in. I figured that out but i guess highroad deletes messages if you havent logged in for a while. I appologize for anyone who messaged and didnt get a response...i let customers know it would be a while before I got parts and all my tools in to finish them. I had about 9 guns i was working on that I brought with me...6 have already been sent out and sent those customers their tracking numbers and most have received them... but i have a few that need replacement parts and extra work...dixie is taking about 6 weeks for certain parts from Italy and i received most of them already..and then im still getting some gun smithing items sent from texas. Thank you for everyone who noticed my absence, didnt think anyone would really notice or care lol. Also im very sorry to all customers for the delay, its not the way I conduct business... these past couple months have put me through some of the worst stress and experiences but things are starting to mellow down and the dust is settling. The parts and tools arriving from texas should be here by end of month and from there it should only take about a week to finish the last few guns i have left. Those who had experienced a delay I will gladly honor a free "Texas Tune" for a gun if you just pay shipping. Ive always been a man of my word with life and business and i ask that anyone who experienced a delay please consider that I did not plan to delay the work or ignore them in anyway and I will do what i can to make it up. Hopefully they can see that other members and customers can attest that this isnt common or part of my character and I wouldnt actively try and ignore or rob anyone. With my new job and having to take on more responsibilities with my daughter (shes not in school and therapy sessions are taking time to get set up) I will be trying to get on the forum at least once or maybe twice a week. I do know i got some folks asking for new work a while back but at this time i will not be taking orders till the first week of next month...sorry about that..its just that some parts and tools wont arrive till end of this month and shipping takes a long while here unless its usps priority (no Fedex here and UPS takes a long while to get here as the UPS is handled by a contracted company). Thank you to all who sent your prayers (you know who you are!), those that gave me positive feedback, and those who understood my situation. I honestly didnt think anyone would notice I wasnt online...thanks to those who bothered to ask and respond about my whereabouts. And a very special thank you to Mark, Mr.Alaskanguy, couldnt ask for a better friend/mentor/addition to my family.

Hi Kid. I am glad Miss Luna and you are safe and settling in. Y'all take care. Your about to witness what a Northern winter storm is soon. It will send chills up your spine.

Still awaiting any kind of contact from The Kid about my 60 for which he’s been paid and had in hand since May!

Unfortunately it IS the way you are doing business.
That said, cottage industries can be a tough market.
Folks expect Walmart prices, with Amazon delivery for actual craftsman's work done as a side gig out of love for the hobby.

I've seen folks bash on Goon's Gunworks and Classic Ballistx right here on this forum for being slow to respond and long lead times on work.

Most folks could likely improve their communication skills and customer service in this type of industry, but who would you pick if you had to choose, a guy who gets the work done right, behind schedule, or a guy who doesn't quite get it right but you get your package back on time?

Plus you get to send the second guy's work out for someone else to fix.

Since you asked, neither. I would go with an actual gunsmith who does quality work, doesn't make seriously skewed assumptions regarding turnaround, doesn't avoid communications, and has a reputation for all those qualities. I think the goon and other craftsmen (not gunsmiths) here are fine people and do fine work, but just like all other people (including gunsmiths), they have life situations and other priorities that can undermine their plans and schedules. If you go with a tinkerer without a business plan, and things go awry, your only real recourse is to make public statements and complaints on a forum such as this. With a licensed gunsmith you have more options. I went the craftsman route once, and learned my lesson. Now I do business with a gunsmith, and haven't looked back.

The problem with most gunsmiths is that don't understand the open top single action. If you have found one keep them a secret so that they don't get over run with to much work to be able to keep up.
