A Few Primers

was that in 1939? right before the war… lol
I was paying $14 per thousand and $70 per sleeve (5000) in the early 2000s, when my son and I were shooting in USPSA. I still have about 15,000 LPP, but I never thought to buy the other sizes.

I haven't bought LRP in ages. In fact, I'm still using some Dynamit Nobel ones made in 1973 that I got at an estate sale who knows when. About the only thing I use LRP for is coyote and pronghorn loads for my 25-06, and I only load about 40 rounds every five years.

A friend of mine was in a gun shop about a half hour from here, and sent me a text saying they had a couple packs of large primers for $6.99 each and was that a good price? I said, it's pretty good for these days so please grab them for me. Didn't even ask, but it turned out they were Federal. This was about 2pm. Made me wonder what they had at 9am that morning. I have about 1500 large still in my stash and would have preferred small ones since I only used large for 45 auto, but use small in .380, 9mm, 38 special, some 357 and .40

So that begs the question, do we really need large and small primers? 10mm and 45s come with both. Why not just get rid of large primers all together and just make small and then we have double the supply.

Same here, I bought enough USPSA - SPP for 9mm to last years. But, then came the baby boys, so I’ll save it for them.

Buy a large rifle primer pocket uniformer and convert all of your large pistol brass to use large rifle. Then only need two sizes - large rifle and small rifle - without having to put up with weak ignition in your magnums.

Seriously, I’m just yanking your chain. Don’t recut the primer pockets of your brass. That can’t be safe.

I enjoy shooting and loading and am not going to put an engraved in stone number on what I am willing to pay, cause I don’t want to eat my words. Like others have said 3 cents or 10 cents are you willing to pay an extra $7 per hundred rounds to go out and shoot and spend time at the range with friends and family. If I have to make a choice then yes I will as I consider it a small price to pay for a couple hours with friends and family. Doesn’t mean I like it but in the grand scheme it’s a small price to pay.

Any info on the primers, never heard of them. Ordered dies from Midway, should be here Thursday and will try them out.
