Uberti Expendable .45 LC

A movie gimmick gun marketed for movie fans.
The Uberti Expendable matches the backup gun carried by the character Ross (Sylvester Stallone) in the movie The Expendables (modern day mercenaries hired to take out a dictator).
Think of it as equivalent to a Mare's Leg like carried by Josh Randall ("Wanted Dead or Alive") or Zoe Washburn ("Firefly") or The Terminator's buttless leveraction shotgun. The only real appeal I see is to movie fans.

As a practical weapon, it would make more sense as a back up carried without reloads than a double barrel .45 Colt derringer.

" A local shop has it for $700 ... been sitting there for years.

That Uberti is a movie prop based on fantasy.

I have a ported 3" S&W 44 Spl myself, but it has sights and I would have prefered it wasnt ported, but it came that way from the factory. The porting is annoying and doesnt do anything but foul the sights as you shoot the gun. It also isnt a good thing if you have to fire from retention.

That Charter Arms lacking sights only limits its usefulness, and for what its primary use supposedly is, the porting just makes things worse. How often have you shot it from a close in retention position in practice? Im guessing never. ;)

I have seen a couple in stores and I kept encountering a gent at my indoor range that had one. Since the CoVid silliness I haven’t seen him. If I recall he didn’t reload ammo.

Anyway, he let me shoot his. It has no front sight. It’s a point shooting affair. The hammer has rollers on it for “fanning” the hammer. The ports do help with muzzle rise and with his factory Cowboy loads there was some flash but it wasn’t bad.

I am pretty sure he told me he paid around $800 for it. I have seen them in stores for $900. These were prices from 2019. I haven’t seen one since the silliness started.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the owner of the gun that I fired could put all 6 rounds in the breadbasket of a life sized silhouette target at 10 yards fanning it with 1second intervals between shots. Our range has a 1 second rule between shots.
I did not “fan” the gun and I “aimed” it (no front sight) and I put 5 of 6 rounds in the rings of an 8” target at 10 yards.

The story behind that weird looking hammer spur, as told by Kent Johnson - the weapons supervisor is that "Sly" couldn't figure out, by the life of him, how to properly fan the revolver. He ended up cutting his hand pretty badly on the original hammer spur, so the armorer came up with that solution.

I doubt it would stand up to "true" fanning. No mention of any internal upgrades.

Mike
They didn't have any "fanning upgrades" at all and, as a result, they tried to eat themselves alive rather quickly... I'm talking about the original Uberti's used in the movies - a Cattleman and a transfer bar model (either it was a Horseman, or Beretta Stampede, I don't remember). I highly doubt that this "homage" revolver will have any upgrades also - it's just for the looks.

The little bit of information I found on the Uberti, said it was “Turned for Action”

They make parts for fanning a SAA?

I can’t find anything on the value. Look at me Blue Book, nothing. Such a mystery gun.

My post is gone ?
But yep .. I have shot it quite a bit before 44 spl ammo started drying up .. I practice with it like a few of my drills with my other snubbies … really have no problems hitting a silhouette it the vitals at 7 yds ..
44 spl is a low pressure round …
And thats a cute smiley face .. my 9yo Granddaughter uses those .. is your Iphone pink also ?

Brings to mind the old proverb about milk producing glands on a male hog. Does look cool tho.
I would buy it only for the cool factor, I just can’t find a price for it anywhere. I might just ask the Shop to knock out $150 and see what they say. been sitting their for years

You need to reload, I shot 100 rounds out of my 696 just last week. Just loaded that back up yesterday as a matter of fact. No shortage of 44 or most other things around here. At least as long as the primers hold out.

I point shoot all the time, and sights, or the lack of them, really isnt an issue at closer distances, its not at all hard to make good hits, but it does take practice. Everything isnt always close either, so what then? Or do you only practice for things up close?

So, with the 44 Spl being a "low pressure " round, you dont mind that blast and crap coming up to your face from the porting when firing from retention?

And being its low pressure, whats the point of porting it anyway?

I suppose on the plus side, not having that front sight, you dont have to deal with trying to get all that crap off the front sight after youve shot it a couple of cylinders full. The lead from LSWC's is a real PITA. And your face too, if youre not careful. ;)

thanks! I’m a long time reloader. I’m thinking of making “wax” loads for it, i seen cowboy guys on the internet talk about it. If I get it, it’s been there for a few years, it’s definitely going to be a novelty. Alright… off to the shop to see if I can do some horse trading

I really need an enabler right now, especially from a guy with a SAA as his thumb nail

At $700 I would pass. I honestly don’t know much about Uberti internal parts and highly doubt I ever will.

If it were me, since they have “had the gun for years” I would wait a week. Do some more research. The desire might cool over a few days.
