Just ordered an Uberti Cattleman SAA in 45 LC. The local gun store has some American Eagle ammo for sale; lead tipped. Can you shoot anything other than Cowboy Action loads in the Uberti cartridge pistols; without damaging the revolver? I thought that American Eagle rounds were fairly light; but wanted feedback on the issue. Thanks.

As long as they don't say +P, you should be fine.
The vast majority of factory loaded ammo is loaded to be safely fired in the old Colts and won't hurt your Uberti.

I have the same pistol, and it'll happily shoot anything that says .45 Colt on it. I wouldn't recommend full-house handloads or Buffalo Bore ammo though. It's a helluva nice gun but I don't think it's sturdy enough to risk damage with really hot loads, it's not a Ruger. But it should be fine with any commercial ammo you run across, except for the BB stuff.

A lot of guys shoot theirs with black powder cartridges, but I don't want to clean up that mess.

Not to sound like a broken record but any commercial non +P 45LC ammo will work. I roll my own and really like the Hornady 255 "cowboy" with trail boss. Very mild and FUN.

EDIT:
Thanks RC, correction any standard non +P loading.

Except, the commercial Buffalo Bore and Corbon +P & +P+ .45 Colt ammo that is restricted to Ruger Only' and other very strong revolvers & lever-action rifles.

Don't go there!!

The others should be able to confirm this but basically anything that uses a cast lead bullet SHOULD be fine. So if you can stay away from jacketed or semi jacketed bullets the pressure and velocity SHOULD be within the SAMMI specs for .45Colt.
