I might just put it on Layaway. Cowboy action carry gun???

I ve seen lots of "slip hammer" good fast work in SASS but really no fanning . I did see fanning in the early 60s Western Fad , it was with wax blanks and was one shot usually. Sammy Davis Junior and Thell Reed were masters of it as well as others. I is extremely hard on the internals.

Howdy

Fanning is absolutely forbidden in Cowboy Action Shooting. Watch the video of Stalone. He is fanning the revolver. He is firing from the hip, and he has the trigger pulled back for the entire shooting sequence. He slaps the hammer back and releases it for each shot without releasing the trigger. That is fanning. Fanning is usually done in Cowboy Fast Draw matches, but real ammunition is never used in Fast Draw matches. Either blanks or wax bullets. Watch the gun store video again. He is not fanning. He cocks the hammer by slapping it back, but he pulls the trigger separately for each shot.

Shooters sometimes confuse Slip Hammering with Fanning. Slip Hammering is different. The revolver is held with two hands, the gun is raised so it can be sighted, not fired from the hip. The shooter holds the trigger back with his strong hand trigger finger, and cocks and releases the hammer with his off hand thumb. When a good shooter is slip hammering his revolver, the observer cannot tell if he is slip hammering or firing very fast conventionally. Slip Hammering is legal in CAS.

Personally, I think that is a ridiculous revolver and I would not be the slightest interested in owning one. I am only interested in revolvers that look as they looked when they left the factory.

Thank! I’m just a Cowboy and gun movie buff! it would be a cool BBQ gun too! but like I said in my previous post. It’s missing the critical element of the movie. So I’m not buying it

+1

Here's my 3 Ubertis in 357. All were bought for under $500.

index.php

And no I would not pay $700 for any Uberti. Much less that monstrosity.

The bottom one; that an "Old Randall"? I have one like it from Taylor's[Uberti] in .45 Colt. Sweet shooter.

That Uberti is a movie prop based on fantasy.

I have a ported 3" S&W 44 Spl myself, but it has sights and I would have prefered it wasnt ported, but it came that way from the factory. The porting is annoying and doesnt do anything but foul the sights as you shoot the gun. It also isnt a good thing if you have to fire from retention.

That Charter Arms lacking sights only limits its usefulness, and for what its primary use supposedly is, the porting just makes things worse. How often have you shot it from a close in retention position in practice? Im guessing never. ;)
I have been thinking about the retention shooting with ports issue, because in my history of suffering assaults, there has never been enough room to extend an arm.

But I’m thinking that with the cylinder gap, the ports aren’t going to make much of a difference.

On second thought, ports may ignite my beard

Go ahead and hold that ported gun close in tight to your lower ribs and light one off. Unless its life or death, I doubt youll do it a second time. At least not in practice. Its not all that plesant with an unported gun. :)

Fire a ported gun in low light, and youll have a good idea where things are going. The first ported gun I had was a 4" Model 29 I had ported by Mag Na Port when they first started doing it. Didnt really do anything for keeping the muzzle down, but that big, flaming "V" was quite impressive when fired in low light.

That's a Uberti Hombre. About 10 years ago there was a seller on Gunbroker trying to get a Benelli or Beretta dealership. Supposedly he had to buy so many guns from them in order to sell those shotguns. He chose to buy a ton of Uberti Hombres in 45 Colt and 357 magnum and sell them NIB for $250 each.

Hindsight being 20/20 I should've bought 2 in each caliber from him. I only bought 1 in 357 magnum.
I seem to recall Cabelas sold the Hombre's for around $400 to $500 a few years before that.

you can pick Uberti Basic cowboy guns in the $500! I love the fact that it’s not completely overpriced

drobs, thanks for the reply. I bought my Uberti/Taylor's "Old Randall" about a year and a half ago. It was such a good deal, I couldn't turn it down. Lordy, it is a shooter!

I gave $200 + shipping & transfer, for the middle Uberti El Patron Competition 357 mag on Gunbroker. It was used, missing it's ejector rod, rod housing, ejector rod spring, and housing screw. I found those parts on ebay for $100.

The top Uberti Sass Pro was bought new off gunbroker for $415 + shipping and transfer. It has the factory short stroke kit in it. Which oddly enough, I don't care for.

Here's an advanced search of non-22lr Uberti revolvers, listed low to high on Gunbroker. Make sure you scroll past the starred items to the regular auctions - page 2 or so.

Here's a used El Patron in 45LC for $425 buy it now.

His feedback looks perfect. However, I hate dealing with postal money orders and I wouldn't buy from this dealer. I also would want to know what he charges for shipping before I hit "Buy it Now" on this gun. I want the speed & protection of my credit card. I really would have to want a gun to use a postal money order on Gunbroker. I've done it twice in 20 years of buying guns off of Gunbroker.

Side note I recently picked up this Cimarron (Pietta) Pistolero 45 Colt used from the local Hardware Store that doubles as a gun shop. I gave $450 + tax for it. Normally I prefer either blued or stainless and will pass on a nickel finished gun. However this one was too pretty to pass up. Plus I've been lacking a 45 colt Single Action.

Crappy pic but you get the idea.

Put a proper barrel with a sight, and a proper hammer on it, and it might be a decent gun.
That would be the rationale for buying it, if you could get it for a huge discount. The hammer would be easy to replace, but rebarreling would be a bitch. If the gun shop has had it in stock for years, with no takers, the shop might be in a position to convert it to a standard gun just to get rid of it.

The porting is one thing but I can't for the life of me fathom why anyone would want a sixgun without a front sight.

Should work just fine at a cowboy action match.
The pistol targets in cowboy action are so close you can spit on em.

I like the look!!! If I can get it for $400-$450, I would get it and buy a airsoft replica to get the roller that’s missing

I heard the Pietta has a fixed fire pin and the Uberti has a floating style pin. I also heard the Pietta is better in the lock up

Well, this explains something I've wondered about. I've recently become interested in replica air guns, and I've seen this weird SAA (type), with a ported barrel, and a goofy looking hammer, and wondered who in the world came up with this thing? A ported SA?

So, it's a replica of the one used in this movie. Never even heard of the movie.

The replica BB gun I'm talking about is made by Umarex and sells for $99.99. Not much chance I'll get one.

Lot of decent deals there. I wanted the Pietta "Paladin" in .45 Colt and 7.5" barrel, but, I'm more comfortable with Army grips, so, I'm still looking. The grips on my Taylor's seems a bit larger that the grips on my Pietta "Gunfighter" making the Taylor's easier to hold and shoot.

I wouldn't worry about any of that. I prefer my SAA copies to have 4 clicks of the hammer. The goofy hammer firing pin safetyish thing of the Uberti is best forgotten about. All my Ubertis have firing pins on the hammer. My Pietta also has a firing pin on the hammer.

Other than cowboy action, watching cowboy movies on tv, and maybe carrying a single action while hunting, you won't see me carrying a Single Action to town. These are hobby guns for me. CCW - I'm carrying either a Glock 19 or Ruger LC9s Pro. Both with spare mags.

I'm not 80 years old like some of the old timers on here that CCW a single action revolver to church on Sunday. I want every advantage in a carry gun.

You have to watch the Expendables part 2! great fun gun movie

Uberti made couple models with the longer 1860 Army grip. I believe Uberti calls it an El Patron Grizzly Paw.

I find I prefer the shorter standard 1851 Navy grip lengths. Hanging my pinky finger off the bottom of the grip doesn't bother me. With gunbroker I find it's best not to be in hurry. Eventually the gun you're looking for (or 1 like it) will come up at a price you want to pay. Just keep checking back every so often.

I want to carry a SAA as my ccw! Learn how to cowboy it and carry it like Clint Eastwood in The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

I been know to carry odd guns. I live in seattle and if I worn a poncho like Clint, nobody would bat an eye

should I get it?

The proper answer to this is "if you want it, get it".

Other than that, I can't answer for you.

Simply liking something is as good a reason as any to get just about anything. How many times have we each bought something just because we liked it, always wanted one, collect for some reason, found something unusual, etc.?

Just don't let it interfere with your family budget is all I have to say!
