Reloading with a sore back

When I built my current bench, I built it high enough so that I could comfortably use it while standing, and then bought a stool and modified it so I could sit at basically the same height. I've got back issues as well and the one thing I can't stand is... standing, immobile in one place for any length of time. If you were to stand and talk to me, you would think I have ants in my pants because I almost continually move from side to side... standing at the reloading press I can do that, too, while working the Magic Handle... but I do get tired, and then I will spell my back with the stool, to break it up a bit. Sitting on the stool, however, makes my legs go to sleep... so I just rotate to keep everything moving.

My bench is built for standing also. I ended up having to work all last weekend and didn't try the stool. Should be able to do some reloading this weekend. I really like the inspection camera idea and, although I am sure they are worth every penny, that's a little more than I would like to spend.

I have a bad right ankle and left knee from chasing bad guys for my uncle Sammy. Dr. says there is no ankle joint anymore only bone on bone (52 yrs, knee 55 yrs) he can fuse, or replace. Fuse makes me a cripple, and ankle is much more complicated joint than knee; no thanks. Besides, I want to go out with all my OEM. Both affect my ability to stand. Shopping with wife has me looking for places to sit down.

Ok then, Alleve or asprin as needed, cane if needed, you only have so many steps each day, when you reach that limit, sit down.

I use padded folding chair and an old school desk with a heavy top for my single stage press. I can go 500 rounds a session.

I hurts me to see threads like this. I had 2X surgeries on my lower back and have been in pain for over 20 years. Either you learn to live with it or it will eat you up. I do what I can when I can and that has to do.

I didn't see this asked or I might have missed it, why not just buy a powder cop?

I hope you have a full recovery. Just remember not to do something that will re-injure yoh back, it will be much worse if you do.

I built my bench high enough so that when standing I don’t have to bend over whatsoever.

...and then that one round spills out of the bin. Of course, it always hits your toes... that's a given... and then rolls under something. Then you have the debate: Do I really, really need that errant cartridge? Is it worth the trip alllllll the way down there to retrieve it?

It always lands on the mouth of the neck denting it, so leave if for later. Only happens after all the brass prep has been done. But when you shoot them, they land base down, so your looking for a black hole.o_O

IAW my physical therapist, the key is stretching a couple times a day, and not staying in the same position for too long.

This spring/summer I had some issues, and new x-rays show that my "moderate" degenerative disc spacing L3 - L5, is now severe. :( Good news is, I'm getting my disability reviewed by the VA. Human beings aren't supposed to wear helmets, body armor, weapons, and jump out of, off, or into things. I make it a point to keep my weight down, and exercise to include the aforementioned lower back stretches. At lunch I do 3.4 miles of walking. Walking is outstanding for back issues.

My loading bench is at 43 1/2" high, for standing and I have a bar stool for occasional sitting. I also added exercise/anti-fatigue mats the full length of my reloading bench (21') and at my cleaning/project bench. At work I have a stand up desk, that also allows me to change positions.

It all helps.

Yes, I agree with that. Or the errant primer that falls and rolls. Or the leg part that falls out of the box for the new saw stand and hit right on the big tow. Or the spring from the Co-Ax jaws goes flying and rolls under the furnace.

Calcium/magnesium powder is great no drug pain reliever ,mix with hot water cool with cubes
It’s immediately absorbed on the body ,used for years Aid for sleep also!!✌️
