My Ruger American Ranch 5.56

I've had my eye open for a predator I believe it is, with an 18" bbl. If I came across a deal on the 16" I would probably spring for it. I've had a short compact 5.56 bolt gun on my mind a long time. 4+ years and still no luck!

My LGS here in Moultonborough, NH had 2 more of these.

I have the RAR in 300 BLK and 6.5 CM. Great accurate rifles. My 223 bolt action is a Mossberg MVP, suppressed. It is also a great bolt action and uses AR mags, but I wouldn't hesitate to replace it with a RAR in 223 if I felt I needed to, or if the RAR had been available at the time I bought the MVP.

My MVP- legal to hunt turkeys here with a rifle on private land BTW.

Did you put one on yours? If so I'd like to see how it looks. That being said, currently I don't see the necessity or the possible benefit. Am I missing something?

this is the one on my 308;

I put a different one on my 5.56, but I like this one better. the much longer handle gives you better leverage working the bolt, making it easier to operate. the much larger handle is easier to operate, as well. plus, it looks good. the first time I worked it, I was like " oh **** yeah!) night and day difference

Does it also mitigate the tendency of the bolt handle to ride up when traipsing through the woods, etc.... I'm in the habit of periodically palming the bolt downward even if it's all the way down because of this, It's become such a habit I even do it with locking bolts.

That's one thing I don't care for on these economy rifles, the bolt handle migrating upward out of battery.....

Don't know. never carried it through the woods.

easy DYI. they send the little wedge with it. just need a pair of snap ring pliers.

I didn't need one one my RA Predator .308, but I put one of these from Glades on my Savage Axis because the handle/scope clearance was tight with the stock handle.
On the Ruger, the bolt handle can still be rotated whether the safety is on or not. The tactical handle won't do anything to help this.
