What did you shoot today?

Not yiday but Sunday, took my 93 small ring mauser. In 7mmx57, my m11 savage in 223 rem and my 98 mauser build in 6.5x55 sweede. Put first 3 rounds through to check function and hoping to zero optic, but couldn't due to an optics or mounting issue.

Beretta PX-4. You know ... the one with the rotating barrel. That's why I bought it. Curious to see how that works. Then didn't shoot it again in a really long time. Forgot how bad the DA trigger pull is and completely missed the target on the first few shots. Remind me to do some dry-fire practice first with any pistol I haven't shot in a long time. o_O

Past week, Glock 19 daily. I load a dozen mags with 10rds and practice shooting on the move, doing 6 reps of 2 mags each, step and shoot, reload, step and shoot. Then I load up a dozen mags with 5rds and do another 6 reps just practicing speed shooting (trying to shoot) the A-Zone on an IPSC silhouette. Getting pretty fast. Definitely come a long way in the last decade from when I started

Today I actually shot nothing because I was at the range yesterday; was gonna post here but was too busy cleaning guns & putting away stuff last night and never got around to it. Had the Mod. 91-30 Mosin with the no-bubba scout scope; The Weatherby Vanguard in 257 Weatherby; and the Remington 870 fully rifled 12 ga. with its latest scope, ( Leupold 1-4x 20mm), that needs zeroing. Mostly just 100 yd. load testing with the Mosin & Weatherby. Showed up a little after 8:30 and was there until noon. IMG_5697.JPG ... IMG_9375.JPG ... IMG_5701.JPG ...Still need to tweak the 870 slug gun scope a bit before November but it's nice to have it ready before the last minute. The Mosin is still zeroed with one of its favorite handloads and the Weatherby had some never before tried loads that were so-so. By noon the temps were in the upper 80's which is definitely above average around here for May 31st. Good times.

.308 Remington Tactical 20" barrel with 150 grain sst at 100 yards.
Tried out a -no crimp- on an already good load and it did even better, and that wasn't
all, then tried new Lapua cases and saw a significant increase in consistency and even
more! The new R/P cases showed signs of 1X fired on the head stamp while the Lapua
cases showed -No Signs- on the head stamp of any pressing at all, almost like new.
Was only one grain under max with IMR-4064 which has been a standard
reliable load for this rifle as well as some of my other .308 rifles.

As I had mentioned in a previous post, need to shoot my daily concealed carry more.
Did that today. And will do more!

My little pocket pal, a Micro Desert Eagle. (380)
Fired 34 rounds as fast as I could from 35 to 50 feet.
After the first two magazines I found my rhythm and became a better shot.

I do not normally show my embarrassing targets ( a reduction of theB-27 to be fired at 50 feet) but today I will show you...

I have some practice ahead of me. :)

Went to the strange range today.
Not much garbage to pick :).
Took almost three hours to cut the grass.
Whatever, I don't care, retirement is good! ;)

I told myself earlier this year that since I am there a couple or plus times a week that I should do more shootin' while there.
Did it again today after chores.

Shot what has recently become one of my favorites, a 2020 Colt Python.
Never thought I would enjoy a .357 but yeah, we are in love!

Did the same thing as the other day firing as fast as possible at a 50 foot B-27 target.
You are not going to see this target as I (forgot) to take pictures.

Was fun though, trying to get rid of the .38 specials that are on hand.
Am going to only load 357 from now on...

Today's count was 30 38 special rounds and just 12 of 357.

Hey! Use care out there

B.L..

Shooting my 1851 navy and my flintlock. Piece of locust wood as back stop caught most of the lead. That which was not caught bounced off and rolled back up the trail where I could recover it. Got at least a few pounds of recycled lead and just look at that group on the paper plate

Today was Marlin day; my only .22s (rifle-wise) are Marlins, my only Marlins are .22s. The model 60 I bought in the early 90s when I worked at a LGS; it came in as a trade. After a good cleaning, a new trigger-guard (intended for a stainless model, and a buffer, it’s became a workhorse. The 39a was my dad’s. He bought it new in the 50’s; it’s seen some stuff. The attached picture is a young me and him shooting it around 1979 or 80-we were serious about eye-pro, ear-pro and foot-pro then. Took the two Tisas 1911s to the range yesterday morning to continue the function checks. The smaller commander size like the larger Government size ran flawlessly with zero failure to feed, zero failure to fire and zero failure to eject. Still working with OLD ammo bought at least 20 years ago so in all I was very surprised and satisfied with the two examples.

One thing needs to be noted and one problem really does exist.

First the problem. The full size 1911A1 mag release button just flat doesn't work with my 8 round Check-Mate magazines. The mags fit and lock in place and feed and fire and drop when empty as they should but it is near impossible to push the mag release in to drop a magazine when it is full. Even with a slightly reduced strength #2 Wolff Reduced Power Mag Spring when an full 8 round magazine is inserted it takes two hands to force the release catch in. Seven rounders are fine and the 8 round mags loaded minus one cartridge work okay. But the 8 round mags work and drop in the Commander sized Tisas as expected.

Second, the thing to be noted. Old Triton 185gr Hi-Vel +P ammo, stuff made by the original company and not the folk from Miami that bought the name, flat pounds your hand significantly more in the Commander than from the full size version. I was really surprised just how big a difference it made. It is still controllable and return to POA is OK but if I shot more that a couple mags of it in a session I'd definitely feel it the next day. Gotta admit it was really surprisingly accurate though. Almost made me look good.

After cleanup when I returned home I did anther five set trigger pull measurement on each of the guns and the Government model is still at just over 4 pounds average while the Commander size is at a significantly lower 3.5 to 3.75 pounds average. Mags used in each gun today were two Check-Mate 7 round, two Check-Mate 8 round, two Mec-Gar 7 round and one old Ed Brown (most likely also Check-Mate) 7 round. Ammo was all really old stuff I bought at least two decades ago and mostly de-mooned 230gr ball UMC with most of the leftover Triton Hi-Vel 185gr +P JHP.

The old S&W 469 also went WalkAbout and so it too got some range time. I only had three loaded mags but they were one old RamLine 15 founder and two S&W 59 15 rounders so 46 rounds all told. The ammo was from Inceptor which used a frangible bullet in a Jagerman brass so simply a JAG 9mm Luger head stamp. It too is likely at least a decade old, but was remarkably soft shooting and super accurate. I found two more clam shell boxes with what appears to be the same stuff once I got home. Not sure whether Inceptor is even still around.
