I have this old Winchester 1897 and I'm having some trouble. The magazine tube does not seem to want to assemble without force and when I did assemble it the carrier does not go up when I move the slide back up. I'm new to the platform and any help would be appreciated. I don't know if I need a new mag tube and new carrier or not.

Also there is a weld on the tube for some reason.

If that is the only 'bump' on the magazine tube, there should be one. However, it looks like yours was Bubba'd. When the magazine tube is turned into place, the bump should be on the top facing the barrel. Here is a pic of the one on my 1897's tube (it is in the disassembly position):

Hey now I got multiple guys called "bubba" and one called "bubby" in my family tree lol I know what you mean though. To me this "weld" is starting to look like some kinda solder used to take the place of the piece shown in your pic

Just had another thought. Considering the idea that someone dripped silver solder over the hole where the piece piranha showed us should be, perhaps the same guy put the wrong follower in it. Just canabalized a part from another gun then forced it in

Thats possible, I took it to a gunsmith in my area and he will look at it. He said that the magazine tube is not seating properly and he will look at it soon. Will post update.
