Surviving a gunshot wound

Gabapentin is an anti-convulsant and has its own set of warnings. If taken for long periods of time, severe withdrawal symptoms lasting for many days and resembling opioid withdrawal can appear if one suddenly stops taking the drug. It can be helpful for certain types of nerve pain...but be careful!
My dog is on it, 200mg. twice a day, but he'll probably be on it for the rest of his life.

Really worked wonders for his hip pain, now walks like normal again. It's also somewhat of an anti anxiety drug, he seems somewhat less freaked out by thunderstorms and fireworks.

Guy who shot home swore he thought it was a deer. Personally I never have seen a 6 foot tall deer wearing camo.

Slob hunters will take a "sound shot" at a noise if they hear something, without actually seeing anything.

Had a guy at work tell me he did this. I said you could kill someone doing that, he said they shouldn't be there, like it was okay. Lost all respect for him.

That's a little more in line with proper usage. The dog will be able to have a better life because of it.
I have used it in the past for migraines. Abused it with alcohol and other drugs for several years.
Like I said in an earlier post. I was saved from that life. I'm going to do everything I can to not go back.

I know whose fault it is. But I don't have any hard feelings. It was a unloading room the range incident.
Wow, you've got a big heart, because whoever did that to you was quite negligent. I'm not saying you should sue him into the stone age or anything, but I would jolly well bear some ill will!

Man - you'd think that they'd at least let you stay on the dope longer in order to make up for missing deer season.
What's wrong with those people anyhow?

Back in the 1980s you could stay in a drug-induced fog for a month or longer if you had a kidney stone,,,,I still to this day can't remember anything between Christmas 1983 and my Birthday in Feb of 1984.....(Darvon is wonderful )
"Two rules, man: Stay away from my percocets, and do you have any percocets?" - Goon (its a hockey movie)
Were it not for hydrocodone I could probably only walk 2 days out of 7. As Indiana Jones said, "It's not the years, honey. It's the mileage."

Bfh_auto, thank God you are ok and getting better. I went through some massive surgeries several years ago, and the Tylenol aspirin combo was how I stayed away from the heavy narcotics they put me on. Man, glad you're still able to move around...will be praying for a complete recovery for you. Take it easy as everyone else is saying.

That said, I'm looking forward to your future input on the effectiveness of the 7.62x39 when the subject comes up! Hope it's not too soon for humor...

Laughter is the best medicine. I'm still waiting on all the gun safety videos...
I was going to comment on the 7.62x39 effectiveness thread. But I figured it would be out of line.;)
One of the guys at Church was joking about not messing with someone who can shoot himself with a rifle and walk around 2 weeks later.
That same bullet at 50 yards broke both front shoulders on a deer and bloodshot the meat leaving a 1" exit wound.

Maybe you're just made of better material.

That's what I used to make my pre-surgery pain more manageable. Then I'd alternate between ibuprofen and naproxen when it was really bad or if I'd get a migraine. With the surgery I had a few weeks ago, I can't take any NSAID's for the next few months...so it's Tylenol only, which never has helped with really bad headaches.

I feel your pain. I used to suffer from migraines. One thing I've found that helps is raising your hands over your head and holding them up as long as you can. It would give me relief after 5 minutes or so.

Raising your hands up helps with hypertension induced migraines, and I've had a few. Quiet, dark room to rest in also helps. And proper electrolyte balance with good hydration improves your heal up time for these types of wounds. I've never been shot but I have had some crazy injuries and it isn't any fun being laid up because of it.

@Bfh_auto first, glad that you are okay, second, I hope you have a speedy recovery. Just don't try to rush your recovery though.

While I have not had any gun shot wounds, I have had shrapnel wounds. I still carry around 1 or 2 souvenirs from 1991. I got a nice ride on a medic chopper out of that deal. I was only 130 pounds and the medic gave me the entire morphine shot at once. The dose was meant for the average 190 pound person.

I had my staples removed Wednesday. The Dr cleared me to drive. I'm able to walk a few steps normally. But I'm still using my crutches because I don't want to have a mishap. The entry wound is about 5/8" with new wet skin on it. The exit is still about 2 1/2"x 3/8".
I'm so blessed to even be alive. Not to mention how fast I'm healing.
I'm down to taking Tylenol and Tisanadine at 7 and 7. It's more to stop the muscle spasms than pain relief.
It looks like I'll be able to hunt this year after all. My brother is going to drag deer for me if I want to go. I still won't be able to cruise timber like normal. But it will be fun anyway.

Answer to prayer. Thanks for the update.
Yes sir. There were countless ones prayed for me.
My second set of X-rays doesn't even look like the one from the day it happened. There are only 4 bone chips about half the size of a pea visible.
The first x-ray had about 8 or 10 and the sit bone looked pulverized.

Thats good news! Hope your rapid recovery continues.

I'm down to taking Tisanadine in the morning to help me stretch out the muscles.
I can walk slowly without a limp. I can walk on uneven gravel and pivot carefully.
I carry one crutch for when my leg gets tired. Which is about 50 yards.
Sitting for extended periods is still a little painful. But I'm thankful for the rapid progression.
I was able to stand at the press Friday and load 20 30-30 shells so my brother's stepson could get a 7 point during youth season.
His excitement made it worthwhile.

Glad you recovered OK.

It could be worse though. This guy took a (unexploded) RPG through the hips: With An RPG Stuck in His Body, Pvt. Moss' Fellow Soldiers Knew What They Had to Do - The Veterans Site News (greatergood.com)

It is amazing how much horrific trauma a person with grit and determination can withstand.
That is a touching story. He had it far worse than I did. He also was aided by some very brave individuals.
I'm thankful that all I have is a scar and some muscles to strengthen 3 weeks later. It is hard for me to fathom the miraculous healing I've received. I feel so blessed.

Hunting season opened and I was able to cruise almost 8 miles. 2.5 of that was carrying a pack that started at 30 pounds and my AR. The bulk of it was after I dropped my boys at the house and went back with my brother.
By the end I was sore. But my muscles were stretched back out. I can actually take normal length steps without limping.
I feel so blessed to be alive. Not to mention being back doing what I love 5 weeks later. I'm not full speed by any means. But I'll take it.
