First range session with the Blackhawk went well!
I didn't bring my Chrony but tried a dozen loads with Vectan Ba9 (eq Unique) and Ba6-1/2 (eq H110).
For light loads I used 7.5gr of Ba9 with 210, 215 & 225gr bullets, pleasant to shoot, not too loud.
Heavy loads, still within published data, Ba6-1/2, up to 19.5gr with a 210gr HP and 19gr with a 225gr WFN. I saw a little bit of flattening of the primers but easy extraction. Vectan data indicates a max load of 19.8gr with a 210gr XTP, but I'm happy to stop at 19.5 with my cast bullets, given this first pressure sign.
Even these max loads weren't unpleasant to shoot. I probably wouldn't want to shoot a box of 50 in a row, but definitely not as jarring as the .44 Mag. I'm really liking the 41 so far
I tried powder coating for the first time this week-end, and it is so much easier and cleaner than regular lubrication! Also allows me to color-code loads. I wonder if I should maybe use Liquid Alox on top of powder coating for heavy loads.. That would add a potential mess I'm not fond of dealing with.. Opinions?
Next session I'll chrono all my loads.
