My $.02. I have had to cruise walmart almost daily for two months just to hit on the day ammo comes in. Here in S. Florida the stuff is scarce and WW now is rationing ammo at 6 boxes/day. I don't tend to hoard ammo but I now will stock up whether or not I plan to shoot.

The Great Ammo Shortage of '09?

Okay, we all know it's tough to find ammo, and walmarts across the nation have bare shelves, and joe blows range buys it all then marks it up 400%. We also know that the nation has never experienced anything like this before. I mean, the cheap old surplus stuff has even been snatched up. What we now must do is to give this occurrence a name. There was "The Great Depression", "Black Tuesday", "The Great War", etc...... I feel it should be up to US to come up with the name, and not some future generation that read it in a book or heard grandpa talk about it. My first suggestion would be the obvious, "The Great Ammo Shortage of '09". Now I leave it up to you to offer more suggestions and we will follow up with a poll that includes the best of the best. No holds barred, get political if you want(as far as the rules and mods will let us), and for the sake of the Constitution of the United States of America, we're gonna toss the "Green" and "PC" crap out the window right here, right now!!! Have fun ladies and gentlemen.

Here's a good one. My friend called the local range to inquire about times/rates and ammo prices. They told her that LEGALLY they could only sell her one box of 9mm right now.

It might be the great ammo shortage of 2009 but the great ammo shortage of 1941 is the reason we have companies like RCBS, Hornady and Sierra.

They made the stuff that shooters wanted and couldn't get during WW2. There have been shortages before and will be again. It has not affected me personally yet. I am well stocked. I learned my lesson in the 1990s.

I feel for you guys trying to find ammo and reloading componants. Some day it will be in stock again. Just remember what you learned in 2009.

On the plus side I went to the Ft. Worth GS last weekend and the dealers had a lot of high priced ammo that they most likely bought at Walmart and marked up. It was not selling at all. Hopefully this is a good sign and things will get back to normal.

I must confess......... I'm the one hoarding all of the ammo. 9mm, .380, .45, x39... you name it, I've got it, all of it, and it's all sitting right here.....right next to me and Gisele.

Clifton Clowers

"I don't care about Clifton Clower, this mountain's mine now."

That's funny! But did you know that the Waycross, Georgia mentioned in the song is several hundred miles from any mountain and it is located on flat palmetto country near the swamp? Now I will say that the Waycross area has many men just like Clifton. They are all over Georgia. They are the "good 'ol boys."

Yes, but this one is supposed to be fun. Due to lead poisoning or ADD, most posts are a bit off track. Yours included.
I wil play then...
How about the "Shoulda seen this coming history repeats itself but we still were'nt preapred for this ammo shortage". I was only 11 then but I hear the same thing happened in 1994.

Seems like a great time to start up an ammo or primer company.

You know it's getting pretty rough when you see a 500 round open box of bulk .22's next to the register at your local gun store whith a little sign saying they will sell by the cartridge.

The Big Empty or the Time of The Empty Mags.

I'll never forget the Tulsa Gun Show this year CTD was the only one with .380 it was S&B for $50 a box of 50. My tables were right next to their setup and the stuff was selling pretty well.

August 2008: Me: Want to split a case of .45 ammo?
Him: Yeah right like I need 500 rounds of .45

November 15, 2008: Him: Can you still get those cases of .45????????
Me: Um,......no

Today: Him: Hey I drove 458 miles this weekend and found a box of .45 for only $52.00, what a deal!!

"The great awakening"

+1 for the Obamanation

I agree with "kx250kex" ive been buying since early 2008 when wally world was stocked every day, buying presses and dies, and a bunch of reloading gear. I'm ready for it, and will be on the front lines, cause its long overdue.

ammo

this could be the saddest time for me and fellow shooters due to the fact that ebay junkies walk into any and all ammo and primmer selling stores and buy up what the can and make people pay triple the amount for a sport that we love i find this to be a outrage and lol but i think all we need is a good ammo bailout program

Absolutely, they should make you present the firearm you will shoot the ammo in, or, better yet, ban ebay.
