I live in Ohio and put my ccw application in exactly 2 weeks ago,and today while i was away i received a phone call on my caller ID from the Sheriffs Office.
But they were closed by the time i got that info,so the exact message is unknown the reason why i say it could be denied.
But if i read correctly they will notify you by mail if its denied? and only a phone call would be good news?
What also could be a nice coincidence is my Birthday is tomorrow,so getting my license on that day would be sweet.Being denied would be harsh to say the least. :(
So wish me luck pls!
Im nervous and excited all at once,i hope i can even sleep tonight.

I live in southeast Mich and I got my permit this Tuesday:) The county clerk told me it would take about 3 months to get called into the gun board for approval when i turned in my application. When I got my call two weeks later I too was nervous about being denied. So I "kind of sorta" understand how you feel. I hope things go your way and I'll be routing for you....Good luck.

Another good reason to live in Colorado - it is a "shall issue" state. You get the training and pass the background check and you're good to go. It takes a couple of weeks to actually get the permit but the wait isn't too long.

I can't sympathize since we just fill out the application(because of a new sheriff) wait in the office for the background check to be completed. Pay the nice deputy and walk out with our CCW. They even allowed me to fill out and sign the form for my wife. This is a "may issue" state. There is no stress associated with it. It is actually easier than getting a driver's license.

When I applied last spring ... AZ was taking a full two months to issue CCW permits due to the huge volume of applicants of both sexes and all ages. A friend just applied a couple of weeks ago and had his permit in less than two weeks. DPS (Dept Public Safety) said they added staff to get the wait times back down to a reasonable time period. Love it.

I am still gratified when I go to the indoor range (just went this morning) and see a nice assortment of young girls, older women and guys of all ages including a surprising number of seniors .... who by the way, seem to be pretty darn good shots.

HEY! guess what?! I got denied for my CCW. just kidding... i live in Torrance, CA and will not even waste my time trying to apply for it. :banghead:

Hopefully everything works out and sometime next year we can move to Montana!

Well, good luck - I'm going to take my renewal shooting test for my Texas CCL the weekend after this. All Texans with a clean record have to do is take a class, fill in the paperwork, send in a check, and not miss the test target too badly.

I was disaproved when I first applied for my ccl in Fl. They had dug up an old arrest from years ago. The charges had been droped. It was A simple matter to go to the courthouse ,get A copy of the records and fax them in. Got my permit in 2 days.
If you have any skellitons in your closet they will find them.

Thanks everyone,im still nervous but ill be that way until its all over.
Ohio is a SHALL ISSUE state,if that matters any?
Also i just looked up info on denials from the Attorney General for Ohio and denials must be in writing and sent to the applicant along with the appeals process info.No mention of calling them to have a laugh while they cry on the phone. lol
Ive not had a bad record in my past,a lot im not even sure what is in there.
To buy a gun in Ohio you must pass the FBI background check which i can do.

I also check the County i live in statistics for the last quarter 256 issued and 0 denied.
I think im so nervous as i take this very serous and its very important to how i feel my and my families safety is my responsibility.

Im about 80% sure its been approved, but nothing is a sure thing.Well that one girl back in high scho.....

I'd say they called to say "come and get it".

Well that one girl back in high scho.....

Maybe you should quit posting stupid stuff on the internet before they change their minds.

It matters a lot - If your record is clear, you'll have a license tomorrow.

Congratulations in advance!

I got mine the same day I applied. I walked in, handed them the paperwork I already filled in, and walked out with it.

I can't relate. Come on over to PA. Steelers > Browns :neener:

There.

Is that better?

Yes ty. Im in a really good mood, despite being nervous. And id hate to rub someone wrong with my bad humor.

Thats the thing,i don't know what's on my record.Nothing bad is anyways, ive stayed relatively out of major trouble these 39 years.
As stated i know i can pass the FBI background check since i just walk in and buy a gun and a phone call later im paying and leaving with it.
And ty for the grats!

I actually used to be a big Browns fan as a young kid and lost interest when they became the Ravens and never got back into it.
If i had went to Franklin County which Columbus is in i may have had it that quick also.
Many people have reported less than 24 hour turn around time.
Still im not complaining about 2 weeks.

Stop complaining and go apply.
Being apathetic about it won't solve a damn thing.

He's not being apathetic, just realistic. When I lived in CA some time ago I had a CCW there. It was about 18 years ago when I first got it and at that time I was among about 450 people in the whole state that had one and only because I lived in a city with a police chief that granted them. I heard recenty that the chief retired and the new chief recalled most if not all the permits. I'm glad I moved!

re: stop complaining, being apathetic...

Yes, everyone that can get a CCW permit, should, and pronto. For a lot of reasons, one of which my wife brought up at dinner tonight about being notified about a dirtbag that may show up at the church where she teaches one day a week for a home-school co-op. It's a shame she's probably the only sheepdog in the building.

Best of luck, and good wishes, DasFriek.

You are aware that Torrance, CA is in LA county, right? You are aware that LA law enforcement is essentially NO-ISSUE unless you are a movie star, politician, prosecutor, cop, or inordinately wealthy. They are currently in the process of being sued for said policy. Even trying to get the paperwork to apply is nearly impossible, much less filling it out and filing it.

Until you have a denied application in hand, there's no excuse to complain about how hard it is to get a permit.
Either make the system reject your application, get it approved, break the law*, or admit apathy ... I'm particularly curious as to why someone would join the forum just to state that getting a permit is impossible.

*just to clarify - I am in no way advocating breaking the law

I just received my Nevada permit in the mail yesterday. It was kind of a surprise since when I submitted the application in July, I was told that there were taking about 100 days. So I can now add the Nevada permit to my Florida, Utah and Arizona permits.

A lot of folks just don't understand the way things are in California. It's a "may issue" state and thus far the courts have upheld the proposition that the sheriff in the county of your residence has complete and absolute discretion to decide if you have good enough "good cause" to get a permit.

In the populous counties, like Los Angeles, Marin, San Francisco, Alameda, San Mateo, and several others it's historically been virtually impossible to satisfy the good cause requirement. Personal protection is not accepted as good cause. The few permits that have been issued in those counties were issued to retired police officers, deputy district attorneys, judges, or on the basis of some documented extraordinary need (such as documented, credible death threats). The sheriffs of a number of other counties have taken a far more reasonable approach.

And one doesn't want to apply without a reasonable expectation of getting a permit. Some permit applications will ask if the applicant has ever had a permit denied. One just doesn't want to have to go there.

So kablooie is not being apathetic. He is being realistic.

Just for closure and a hearty Thank you! to the well wishers,i picked my license up promptly at 9:30am and at 10am i was strapping my full sized 1911 to my waist and spent the afternoon hitting all the gun shops somewhat local to me for my next purchase.

Ohio is also a "shall issue" state. The SO has 45 days to issue. Some people it takes longer and some shorter time to get their license. If you've lived in Ohio all your life and at the same address you generally get your license the first/second week, sometimes sooner. If you're old like me and lived in 12 states then it takes longer. The caveat is after you wait the 45 days and get the license, then something pops up that wasn't picked up, (usually a slow response from some non-computerized county), the SO definitely sends you a notice to turn in your license.

That was the Sherriff calling to tell you that since you applied for a carry permit, you were dangerous and were going to be issued a restraining order and forbidden form looking at a gun again. Laughing.

Ley me know how it all comes out.
