Of course it's incrementalism. Of course it's an infringement on our rights. Of course it is singling out gun owners for persecution when the same focus should be on the purchase of gasoline by people convicted of DUI (in order to be consistent).

HOWEVER. This is one of the only gun control schemes in california that actually passes federal constitutional muster. It's not a ban. This is 100% allowable under states rights. States have every right to regulate commerce within their borders and that is exactly what this is.

Do I think this will do any good? Yes. The gang bangers and illegal aliens steal our guns and then can go buy ammo without any questions being asked. I've watched this scenario repeated too many times to count. Will they just have their girlfriends buy the ammo FOR them? Of course, and that almost always comes back to bite them.

I also think that this will drive more good people out of California, which I believe is the only solution to living under lists of gun control in CA that is patently UNconstitutional. Have I written off California in terms of ever restoring the 2nd amendment? Not in the long term, but yes in the short term. As you can see, this isn't a "bash" upon California in any way.

Is there a point in there somewhere?

Yes, quite a few of them.

Did you read his post?

The gang bangers and illegal aliens steal our guns

I hate this fantasy. It's so silly. There are plenty of legal guns that find their way into the underworld. I've never heard of a private seller that does more than look at a driver's license. Not all gang bangers have felony records to fail a check at a store either. There are also plenty of clean record people who would buy guns for their not so legit friends.

Well, since you either didn't read my post, or you're hostile and argumentative to an alternate opinion (without providing one of your own), I will repeat it in the form of a pill for you. I essentially support this bill and I explained WHY. Try again.

Yeah that is the ticket, run and hide. Don't stand up for your rights, run away. That will show them. You forget the anti gunners want you to take your guns and leave!

Is that the American way, run from a fight? Why don't you do more to reverse the decisions and take control of your state back? Maybe that is tooooo hard.

Sorry I was short. I DID read your post.

It seems your willing to trade away something vital as a solution to a problem that doesn't exist, suggesting that it will make some difference in the long run.

I don't see it that way.

All I hear in your post is frustration.

Pending incorporation, this will actually be a brand new area of constitutional law that has never been addressed before: the weighing of a fundamental right to own a product against either economic or consumer protection regulation. Your assertion that a state's right to regulate its internal economy trumps all has not been established in this new framework.

Nor would it necessarily pass Federal constitutional muster either. Congress can pass uniformity legislation, and something as limiting as this can run afoul of said legislation and thus be unconstitutional before you even get into the personal rights of those involved.

I think most sensible people have written off California. If you choose to live there and repeatedly vote in the liberals, you deserve what you wish for.

Hmmm if you are willing to let Arnold control your firearms and manipulate your 2nd amendment right so easily . . . . *puts on hockey mask*

Just walk away from the gasoline!

So what's to stop them from stealing your expensive ammo too? Besides, those gang bangers will simply send one of their homies to a neighboring state to buy up a bunch of cheap ammo and bring it back. Meanwhile, the law-abiding people like you will let yourselves get hosed and pay the huge price premium.

Attempting to control crime through commerce is one of the dumbest ideas I have ever heard, and it's failed every time it's been tried.

All this will do is increase the crime rate, ammo will be a higher target theft item.

Your logic is a complete failure, as are all attempts to control crime through gun laws. It's never worked, and it will never work.

I have always advocated an all out ban, even getting the NRA to ASK for it....muzzle loaders, pistols, shotguns, everything. Make every gun owner a criminal. Then we'll get enough people sufficiently angry.. This applies to the whole country, not just California. It is just not working any other way.

You must not take into account the dwindling numbers of gun owners. Soon you will get the first part of your wish, but the pissed off people will be so outnumbered that it will not matter.

By all evidence, the number of gun owners isn't dwindling at all.

I really don't understand the logic in the OP's argument.

I was born in the SF Bay Area, and I know alot of you have written us off. But there are a number of good people living here who are unwilling to surrender our homeland. The majority of liberal idiots here are carpetbaggers from out of state (or South of the Border) who come here and impose their liberal utopian fantasies on the rest of us.

At times, it feels like I'm fighting a losing battle (probably because I am) but at least I haven't given up. San Francisco is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and I'll be damned if I give her up without a fight.

Wasn't this country formed because of a (semi) oppressive government? Should we have all just stayed in Europe?

California is unfortunately infected with diseased logics and ideas, much of them brought from outside the state much like syphillis. California got hit by the 60s and its ruin began in the 70s. It's a nice state don't get me wrong, there are many enclaves of good Americans. And I've once been to SF, visiting gay friends of my parents, real beautiful, real expensive.

Back on to guns, retreating will get us nothing. We have the momentum, a down spiraling economy, a dissatisfaction with government, a large demand for firearms, and supreme court still relatively on our side. Cowards retreat, and cowards lose everything. "He who defends everything, protects nothing."

The logic is twisted. Ammo prices will go up, criminals will keep being criminals, the criminals like 'Phatty' said will get ammo from outside the state and bring it in just like they do with guns, think New York and Virginia. Good folks leaving the state will solve nothing. There will be no reset button short of a full blown Civil War and a countless expense of horrible actions necessary to cleanse the state.Better should the good people stay, have as many kids as they can afford to, buy as many guns as they can afford, teach safe and responsible gun ownership to their children and others.

People want quick solutions to problems that were long in building. You don't mow your yard, your gonna have some high grass to cut. Get to cutting and quit your whinning.
