My first handgun match: I should have started years ago!

Glad you had a good time! Most guys say the same thing the first time they shoot a match. Get a good belt, holster and some good mag pouches and you'll be good to go. Look into a good progressive press for loading lots-o-practice ammo. You'll be hooked in no time flat.

Forgive my ignorance, but what does UDPL stand for?

In 25+ years of Action Shooting competition I've always said that if I don't get the "shakes" at the start of Match Day --- I must not be having FUN !!!

Competitions help your performance in a gunfight, by introducing an element of stress (the "shakes") that approximates that of a real gunfight. So does hunting ("buck fever").

I just shot my first IPSC club matches this summer along with getting into the cowboy action shooting scene. Like you I found these matches to be great fun and infinitely more fun than perforating paper.

And for the record you're too modest. You dispatched those two Texas Stars in fine form. I could only hope to do as well.

You mean 158 gr, right. The 240 is more for the .44 special.

As for IDPA, great to see you like it guys. The match is the test, the training for the match, if you keep in mind the 'defensive' part if IDPA, will server you well if ever you need to defend yourself.

Chuck Norris doesn't use a gun, he just puts the bullets in his mouth and spits them at the target.

That's top third High-Cap and top quarter overall. You did better than mid-pack. Be proud of yourself .

You are in for trouble know, you are going to get bit and bit hard. You allready say you need mag holders. What is next? Well more mags, and a reloader. I from past shooting needed a dillion 550B. You can't go wrong with that. You need to shoot for practice and for the match. That can be over 500 rounds a week. On the dillion that will take you about a hour(after some time) Then you will want to buy a wheelgun just for a different game. Mine is a S&W 586 with a 4 inch barrel, trigger job and magna porting(well worth the money) And then you may need(WAN'T) a shotgun. OH you are in for lots of trouble. Just sell your guns and run before it gets out of hand.
You should ask if you can do it with a 22? It will help you in the long run. It won't cost as much. And it will be just as much FUN. And were where the bowling pins? You need to try that.
I build shooting plates for our club and they just love them. Five five inch plates on a frame, All in a row. You shoot and they fall, pull the rope and they stand up. Did I say BOWLING PINS! This kinda dates me but have you ever head of John Shaw? He was my mentor. I wanted to be just like him.
As I told you before sell your guns and run before it is to late. You might still have time

Kidding. The videos were very cool. I've been thinking about getting involved with a local practical defensive pistol shooting group, but have been nervous that my skill level would not be up to par. Plus, I too need a few accessories.
