I asked this on Handloading and Reloading and haven't got an answer so I'll ask here. Is Varget powder made in Australia and does it offer a range of burning rates?:banghead:

Varget is one of Hodgdon's line of powders. It's a single powder, not a brand name. It seems to have a real wide range of applications from small to large bore rifles. I think it's made here in the USA.

Hodgdon Varget is one of the Extreme Rifle Powder line offered by Hodgdon.

"The first of Hodgdon's revolutionary Extreme Extruded Powders, VARGET features small extruded grains for uniform metering, insensitivity to hot/cold temperatures and higher energy for improved velocities over other powders in its burning speed class. Easy ignition and clean burning characterize other features that translate into superb accuracy, higher scores and more clean, one shot kills. The perfect powder for competitive Match shooting 223 Remington and Heavy bullets. Outstanding performance and velocity can be obtained in such popular cartridges as the 223 Remington, 22-250 Remington, 308 Winchester, 30-06, 375 H&H and many more."

Hodgdon does not make Varget powder, they import it from Australia. It's made by ADI. Varget is a very versitile powder and can be used across the board in various cartridges, from .223 to 375 H&H.

yeah, it's made in australia. i know because i called the company 2 years ago to ask why i couldn't find any 8lb kegs in stock anywhere and they explained all the problems they were having in australia.

very good powder though

Its all I use for my 5.56 needs.

Should I be looking at any other powders OTHER than Varget? So far it seems fine, but I havent used anything else.

Australia, didn't know they had factory setup overseas, in this day and age globalization of the economy can take production line anywhere on the globe, if they move one of their products which I use to China I will switch to Vihtavuori powders no doubt, the only reason I use Hodogdon powders because of their reasonable price and good performance.

They don't

as noted repeatedly above the powder is manufacturered by ADI and is simply purchased, packaged and rebranded by Hodgdon.

Just like WW296 was simply H-110 in a diffrent can back before Winchester was bought out.
