Varget load for Garand?

I have been loading 130 gr. Hornady #3020 (flat base spire point, probably intended as a varmint bullet) over 50 grains of Varget.

Started with the lighter bullets because a bag of 500 130's came along with some other stuff I bought for cheap, will continue to use similar lighter bullets for casual plinking out to 200 yards.

Pleasant to shoot, and accurate. 125 gr. Nosler BT over the same charge is even better, but costs more.

The most accurate long range load for the USN 7.62 Garands was a new LC match case and primer, 44 grains of IMR4320 and an uncrimped Sierra 190 HPMK seated to 2.9" OAL. About 3" to 4" test groups at 600. No bent Op rods. Gas port opened up to .1095".

Few bolt guns shoot like that.

If you guys are looking for a "Varget-like" powder that is temp insensitive and cleans copper as a bonus, try IMR4166. I've been working up loads with 168 and 175SMKs, and it is working wonderfully. It being about the speed of 4064 makes me feel a little safer too.
