Was told today that DC is pushing to increase the $200 tac on NFA weapons. This is the first I heard of this and was curious if anyone else had heard this rumor.

I have not heard of this and would be interested to know the source of this rumor.

However, given the ways they are trying to increase taxes (10% on tanning beds and what-not) it would not surprise me if they attempted to increase the NFA tax several times what it currently is.

It came from a co-worker who is also an FFL dealer. I don't know where he heard it from. I agree with LoneCoon if we could register post 86 guns I'd be more than willing to pay a higher rate.

I haven't heard anything about this at all. Gun-banners are more likely to end registration for more Title IIs than increase the cost of a tax stamp.

I also have not heard that. As far as raising money, here's a suggestion. Start an open amnesty, and allow unregistered NFA weapons to be registered but say with payment of the $200 tax in order to get it registered. I believe there are still many thousands of unregistered guns out there, maybe millions, who knows?

This would raise money AND get unregistered guns on the books.

Also BATF could allow paid transfers of all NFA items including pre and post May sample guns. While we're at it, why not start allowing the maufacture of new guns? I bet they could make a nice dent in the deficit with that. :D

Hey Buddy! Wake Up! I think you passed out there for a minute and started dreaming! :D

Let me guess, heard it in a gun store?

I am an FFL/SOT and have heard nothing about it, and I really doubt that there is a bill before Congress having anything to do with it. Once such a bill gets introduced then that section of law gets opened up for amendments. Neither side wants to deal with that right now.

Once again like I stated in post #6 I heard the rumor from a co-worker who also is an FFL dealer. I don't know where or whom he heard it from, all I know is what he told me. I don't listen rumors at gun shows or at gunshops. I will listen to some BS fro
time to time but I don't listen to rumors.

$200 today is an equivalent to $3200 back in 1934 when the NFA was released on our freedoms. So I can image when the day comes to an increase of the tax the sky is the limit. I'd assume it will be at least doubled to $400 when the day comes and we probably shouldnt complain too much cuz they could adjust for inflation and set it at $3000+ per stamp. The whole "silencer as a NFA item" is absurd anyway. Consider the anti-gun countries of Europe that allow their citizens to buy silencers over the counter for less than $50. If the American government is so concerned about our healthcare as citizens at least let us protect our hearing too.

There was some guy trolling around on silencer research and silencer talk saying the same thing (tax increase yada yada).

im still kinda new to posting on here, but after seeing this and doing a little research i had to, and all i have found is that it seems to be a load of b.s, i mean i would not put it past the soviets...i mean politicians in dc but there is no evidence that its true, but hell what do i know i just tend to stay away from nfa stuff (i shoot alot as is) not to say i have not been tempted to get one...that is if i ever have the stupid amout of cash to afford a nice FA ak or m16. after work i'll have to hit the nearest class 3 dealer (since i'll be in the area anyways) and ask...that is if im not drooling over everything in sight LOL

(Update) i stopped by three local gun shops after work today and the only thing i heard was "sounds like bull-poo ." and "I have heard it but believe its nothing to worry about" and the class three guys say this isn't the first rumor floating around lately and not to worry about it... then tried to convince me to start making payments on the f/a ak's i drool over every time i come in there... lol so id guess its buisness as usual in the nfa realm, but heck its great that people are being vigilant :)

Considering the numers of gun owners that don't know NFA stuff is legal, I bet you would be hard pressed to find a politician that knew that they were legal. Most of them haven't got a clue about NFA and the tax issue.

Gotta remember, the idiots writing the bills don't even know what a barrel shroud is after all...

I've been hearing this rumor (usually quoted from FFLs) forever. Folk older than me have claimed to hear this rumor before I was alive.

I think its just FUD.
