I bought a new Mk 4/Series 70 for $234.
Then I sent it to Jim Clark in Keithville, LA. He machined it and installed Smith and Wesson adjustable sights, tightened the slide for target accuracy, and did a trigger job for $112.
Then it went to Trapper Guns in Michigan. Trapper ported the ejection port, put an ambi Swenson safety on, beveled the mag well, throated barrel, hooked the trigger guard, jeweled hammer and trigger, finished it in satin nickel and engraved my name. This cost $178.
The only other work I did was to have a solid bushing (instead of the collet bushing) installed.
I've got $524 in the gun, and it's only had about 2000 rounds through it.
All this took place in 1978.
Amazing how things change.
