Ok folks I have been reading the posts in here and you guys seem to be of the upper edumicated sorts so please pardon my hillbilly speak, but I am just a regular fella that is generally pissed off in this socialist state of Illinois!

I just went to 3 different sites that have really good prices on weapons and come to find out I can't order from them because THEY DON'T SHIP TO SUMMIT ILLINOIS! Even to FFL holder!

How can this be gotten away with in this country? Is this NOT infringing on our 2nd amendment rights? The state of Illinois is by far the strictest state in the country for gun ownership. But this is getting pitiful. They are now restricting ownership by denying us the availability of firearms! They tax the gun dealers so much here, to buy a $300.00 rifle here, by the time you add in the taxes and fee's, you are out $600.00. No sir that is NOT an inflated estimate! I just went through the long drawn out UNCONSTITUTIONAL FOID process just to find out for me to get a firearm I will have to buy one in this state with inflated taxes. Sorry I don't particularly cotton to the notion of some state telling me where I can and cannot spend my damn money! Is this or is this not infractions upon SEVERAL statutes in the constitution? Are they or are they not generally saying "You can buy one but you will have to buy it here and pay outlandish taxes that are not represented or "earmarked" in any way whatsoever". No you cant buy one from another company that is 80% cheaper than one you get at your local establishment!

Summit/Argo is in Cook County Illinois for those of you that do not know (Also the same county as Chicago) Land of the free (if you are an illegal alien) Home of the brave (as long as you aren't out after dark unarmed). You cannot obtain a CCL in this county or state, I don't think, unless you are a LEO. Which to me right there is unconstitutional in itself.

One thing I was wondering was this. If I was to obtain an FFL, Which I may do if I can and get back into gunsmithing, would I be able to order from the companies that I choose then or not? If not then AGAIN I would be FORCED by an elitist government to "buy here" at hefty cost that I would then have to transfer to my customers. That in itself is a hinder to the FREE TRADE ACT and unconstitutional again! I may not be the brightest bulb in the lamp and may just be misinformed (wouldn't be the first time and I'm always willing to be educated) but I am by far not the dimmest!

Any and all thoughts are welcomed on this subject as well as any and all willing to fight this sad sad set of laws in this state.

Your state laws or the sellers' policy? I'd say yes and then no. The seller should be able to decide who he wants to sell to and who he would prefer to not hassle with.

I don't know if getting your FFL would necessarily open up your abilities to order the guns you want. Your state will have plenty of regs for dealers. Only a licensee from IL could tell us for sure. I don't think that would be a practical way to go, just for buying personal guns, anyway.

By the seller? Not at all. They certainly have the right to decide not to open themselves to the liability of doing business within certain jurisdictions. I honestly don't mean this to sound trite, but when enough people in Illinois start to feel about it like you feel about it, you'll elect some different politicians. Or you'll vote with your tax dollars by paying them to another state.

That said, I really do wish you luck in finding what you are looking for and hope that if you keep looking online long enough, you'll find somebody who will be willing to take the risk of selling to Illinois.

In answer to your question, It is STATE "laws" not the sellers not wishing to fool with it. As far as getting my FFL it would not only be for personal use as I said I am thinking seriously about getting back into gunsmithing work again as well as custom ammunition. If I had to pay the outlandish costs from the suppliers here I wouldn't be able to make it at all and I think that is the direction that this state has taken. Make it completely unaffordable for the average Joe to afford to enjoy our heritage of the shooting sports. If they can't do it through legal channels, hit us in the wallet. Well folks I believe it is time we start hitting them back in the wallet. I have contacted the Second Amendment Foundation and have found out that there is a class action lawsuit that has been filed against the state of Illinois for infringing on our constitutional rights. Hit the state in the wallet and MAYBE, just MAYBE the so called "lawmakers" will get a wake up call. Hopefully I can get named in the lawsuit and become an integral part of the hammer that busts Mayor Dailies little bubble!

1) Since they won't ship to an FFL there, what makes you think they will ship to you there once you are an FFL?
2) To get an FFL, you -first- must meet all the state, local, town, homeowners association, block captain, etc, etc requirements to be in that kind of business ... THEN you can apply for your FFL. From the sounds of it, where you live, you'll never get that far.

Vote with your feet.

Well since I am a second party purchasing I am under the impression that is the reason. If I am the holder of an FFL and ordering for myself or for my own business I am thinking that changes things. I did not ask them as I didn't think to at that time.

Well yes since I am fairly new to this socialist state I had not attempted to purchase a firearm since I had been here so I didn't know the extent of the BS laws. Never had to deal with this sort of crap in Tennessee, where I am from, since us Hillbillies refuse to let "lawmakers" take away our rights. I guess they know us backwoods country folk will educate them properly if they try. Isn't it a little bit funny how all the "upper crust" "educated" "smart" "city folk" are the ones that allow their civil liberties to be chipped away day after day but us dumb ole hillbillies are the ones that stand up! Maybe some of you "educated" folk should take notes and grow a little bit of red in your neck!
 
Speaking as a "free state" FFL... I hate IL. And CA, NY, MA, MD, etc.

Why? Because their state laws are a major PITA for my business. I am perfectly happy to ship firearms that are legal for the public to own into those states. The problem is keeping track of what is legal, and what isn't. So, understandably, there are dealers out there who have made the business decision that their time and resources are better spent selling to people in "free" states versus staying on top of what an IL resident can and can't own.

And here I was under the impression that saying this gun is legal and this gun is not legal was infringing. And here I was thinking that taxing a weapon and dealers so high that they cannot do business was infringing. What was I thinking!!!!

:cuss::banghead::cuss::banghead: Thou speaks truth there my young friend! But when I moved here, finding a job paying more than 10 dollars an hour in Tennessee was like finding a diamond growing in your belly button. Just wasn't going to happen!
 
So, you trade a $10 an hour job in TN for a $30 an hour job in IL - and yet the cost of living in IL is probably 3x what it was in TN.... :neener:
 
Illinois Gun Sales

I am an FFL in Illinois. The usuial practice is they use an FFL outside of COOK County. Be careful to abide by local rules and regulations.
 
Well there's your in-state FFL who would probably be willing to help you buy whatever you need. That is until you decide to vote with your feet and pocketbook.:scrutiny:
 
You can legally buy face to face or from dealers all over the state of Illinois. Cook County is a social, legal, and political cesspool all to itself. Many of us believe if it was not part of Illinois, the rest of us would be better off.
There are legal ways around your problem.
 
As has been previously noted.

Your issue is not as much with Illinois, but with Cook County, of which Summit is a part.

You live in a place that is basically run by Daley's whims.

Until Daley chokes on a Polish at the Taste of Chicago and keels over like his old man did, the Cook County Gun Laws will remain unchanged.

I live just South of you in Will County. No "Assault" Weapon Ban, no magazine bans, no restrictions on ammo purchasing (aside from what a dealer may impose).

Try a gun dealer outside of Cook County, like Rinks in Lockport or even Freddie Bear in Tinley Park. Both family owned and run shops that are very friendly.

As long as you don't have a Chicago address, you shouldn't have any problem getting them to receive a firearm for you. The transfer charge was around $50 last time I looked.

We're living in hopeful times to be a gun owner and 2nd Amendment supporter. The national gun rights groups are working at restoring Chicago and Illinois Rights to Keep and Bear Arms with the help of the recent US Supreme Court decisions.

Help is on the way, but they have to work their way through law suits that can take months and even years. Get to reading online and find the organizations that you think are doing the best job and donate a few bucks every month.

I live in California so I know about nasty state and local gun law. The State Legislature just ended it's session a couple of hours ago and three new proposed laws against gun owners got shot down in flames! I think the tide is turning. Get involved and start helping.
