I saw on older thread here about the SIG P-210.

I was lucky enought to get one of these and let me tell you that is a suberb shooter. Nothing except the Finnish Lahti L-35 can compare to SIG. Both pistols offer the shooter enormous shooting enjoyment.

If you can, get one of these. You will never regret. And don't tell me that any modern pistol can compare. They can't.

The new and improved version which will be released at SHOT this year will sell for about $3000.
 
Maybe when the new ones hit the market the price will be better priced, but maybe not. I've seen reports of them selling for over $2500 though in Europe.

I wonder how a P210 would compare head to head with modern pistols such as S&W 952, HK Elite, Sig X5, Sphinx, etc., (all top quality, pricey guns also).

I think that after the $1500 mark in pistols the law of deminishing returns really kicks in. Look at the new P210 you are paying more than double what you would pay for say a Sig x-5 and you are certainly not getting a gun that is 2 times more accurate.

I am not saying that if I had $3000 burining a hole in my pocket I would not be tempted to buy one but "value" is a treaky word which means a lot of different things to different people.

This 9x19 (most likely) or 9x21 is at least as good as the bottom one......

Its magazine proly holds 15 cartridges.
Can't get the link to work but it's item#40250---- S&W Performance Center 5906 'Super 9'. This is superb weapon in every way.

Congrats! P210's are my favorite autos and there is quite a bit of information available to anyone willing to learn about its devolopment and methods of construction, which are unequalled for a service pistol.

In Fair Market Value, that's probably close to an even trade. :D

Can't beat them for quality and craftsmanship, if you like fine mechanical Swiss watches, you'll love a SIG P210. As a shooting tool, though, I'll go with something less pricey that can still do the job.

The "new and improved version" boasts 25-meter test targets grouping a little worse than those of the originals fired at twice their range. Their firing system with its trigger rod-actuated firing pin block stands to the originals unencumbered by lawyerly concerns, as Series 80 Colt Government Models to their predecessors. The magazine retention system looks to have been copied from the SAN P210-6S, suffering from that gun's interference of the magazine latch button with the full range of the trigger stop screw. I have two of these "Legends" coming in from Germany anon. A detailed test will follow.

I called them new and improved in a tongue and check fashion.... :p

Personally I am waiting for them to come in so that the price of the P210-6 pricing goes down...

The pistol at the top of the picture is a Finnish Lahti L-35. There were only 9300 of these ever made and the pistol shown is within 25 numbers of the end. The Lahti L-35 was the service pistol of Finland and it is made with the same exteme fit and finish as the P210.

The L-35 has an absolutely sublime trigger right out of the box. Sort of like a 9mm Hammerli...

The prices of these will not come down. It's just with those very expensive Swiss watches with little gold crown on the dial. Last year when killing time between flights at Schiphol I went to boutique a where they sold those exclusively. A diver SS diver watch with overpressure gas escape valve had tag of over 4,000e. I didn't see much more then about 1,000e worth in it.
The "Scandinavian pseudo-Lugers" are very well made it's too bad they are "iron boulders".

Maybe... they said the same things about the HK P7s. There was a time you could not touch a P7 of any kind for under $800 unless you really lucked into it. There simply were not enough of them in the market place so they commanded a premium. When the P7 PSP trade in guns hit the market the entire P7 market dropped. People have a hard time selling P7 M8s for $1200 these days because there is another choice. It might take time but I think the existing P210s will come down in price. They will still be $2000+ guns but they will no longer be able to command $3000. IMHO.

I think there is a "Gucci factor" with these old Swiss/Danish service pistols. When I think of expensive centerfire combat type target pistols names like S&W 952 or Les Baer come to mind. Is there a market for new $3000 Swiss one out there?

We will see. I think it might be tough in this economy. I know I am tighter now with my gun fund then I was 2 or 3 years ago...
 
The P-210 has a few flaws. The safety is hard to use and the magazine release is not overly convenient. And some people suffer P-210 hammer bite.

But purely as a shooter, the P-210 is an absolute joy. Trust me on this. You will never find a pistol that offers so much pure shooting pleasure. That is unless you get a Finnish Lahti. Not a Swedish Lahti, but a Finnish one.

Anyway, I have fired many, many pistols and the P-210 and the Finnish Lahti are my all time favorites.

Trust me when I say that none of the pistols on that guy's list come close to the P-210 in build quality. The fit and finish is at a level that you truly can't comprehend until you cycle the slide. And the same is true for the Finnish Lahti. These two stand alone.

Correction on the P210 Legend.... MSRP on the 210 legend with Fixed sights is $2199. Adjustable sights $2399

What he says. Got mine in "Target Heavy Frame" i.e. with adjustable sights. Marked 210-5 but with 120 mm barrel. Produced late, the no. starts by 317... The wise men say it was produced after the best times were over. Nevertheless, my most accurate handgun (including my 6 `` Colt Python).
