S&W classic series performance center 41 mag

With adjustable sights it is the Model 57 .41 Magnum Target. With fixed sights its the model 58 .41 Magnum Military & Police.
These were premium priced reintroductions of old product lines, in 2009 & 2010 respectively, with MRSP of $1161 & $1140. They are still listed on S&Ws website under the Classic line.
Actual retail is whatever you can negotiate, check some of the online auction sites to get an idea.
Both guns are built on the large N frame (same as the .44 magnum Model 29, and are available in blued or nickeled finish.

Here's mine - Lew Horton edition 41 Mag Classic Hunter II. Stainless, rosewood grips, pre-lock, compensated barrel. Fantastic gun and shoots amazingly well. It makes me look good on the range (and that's saying something!)

As to ammo, factory loads runs the same cost as 44 mags which is logically - same amount of lead and powder, same primer, slightly less brass.

Nice revolver mes227, though I do not believe it is the revolver midtennpawnstar was asking about.

Yours is a 657-4 Classic Hunter II; 6 1/2" Barrel; unfluted cylinder; Power Port; round butt frame.
These were also produced for Lew Horton Distributing Co. in 1998, with a total 300 made.

I have been considering ordering a PC M657 snubbie. Still pondering if the the extra cost is worth it.

ko41 has it right, I looked in the Standard Catalog of S&W under the performance center section, it wasn't listed there. It is listed in the fine print of the standard Model 657 listing. So S&W have two different Classic Model 657s.

FWIW the SCSW in 2006 gave a value of $485 in excellent condition, $550 in As New In Box. It doesn't give values for Performance Center guns, but does not the MRSP of a PC Model 657 Defensive Revolver with 2&5/8 inch barrel was $1001 in 1999, so the Classic of 1998 was probably around the same price.

I was recently quoted $1000 on a new one from a gunshop known for generally fair prices (give ot take $50).

22-rimfire, I think your dealer should be able to do a little better than that.
My local S&W dealer has a 2.625" 657 in the showcase for $850, and I am usually able to get a discount off the tag price from him.

That is good to know. The price was too close to MSRP. But they had always been fair in the past. What this tells me is IF I decided to buy at that price, I would not feel bad just putting it into layaway for a couple months and pay it off slowly as they were certainly making their money. In the past, if I order something special, I pay for it immediately at that shop.
