Is pepper spray/mace illegal anywhere?

In Michigan you used to only be ale to carry a 2% solution of pepper spray. That recently changed to the more normal 10% solution. However, sprays are still limited in the amount that can be discharged in one squirt, 35 grams, if I remember correctly.

One cannot take pepper spray into Canada.

In Canada it's illegal. But bearspray isn't.

So criminals use bearspray on convenience store cashiers in stead of pepper spray.

Why is it banned?

Not entirely out of humor, if you carry it, it might not be a bad idea to dose yourself with some. Especially with a camera nearby, as you can have some amusing reactions.:)

Word. As a Coast Guard boarding team member I had to get doused before they would let me carry it. When you know how it feels it will really help you use sound judgment if you ever have to use it. Got video, too.

^And I always hear (and it makes sense) that it is very possible to end up getting a whiff of stuff if you have to deploy it.

(I got dosed with some when I went active duty AF., and have some pictures and video of us choking, coughing, and staggering around in the open field after leaving the small dosing building.)
