Not gonna be used for concealed carry, just a range gun, home defense gun, i prefer 9mm cartridge.

Ruger p95 new for 325 dollars all black.

What should i expect with the:
Reliability?
Accuracy?
Durability?
Any 30 round mags?
Would anyone recommend it? Don't wanna spend more than 400.

Not gonna get a used glock btw, i like the exposed hammer/decocker design. So don't reccomend that instead, ^^^^^^^^^

take a look at the 800 series from Taurus. I got my 840 for under $400 out the door, with a box of ammo AND some cleaning supplies. The trigger on it is far superior than the Ruger, but the only downside is almost no aftermarket support as of yet.

When it comes to guns, the price of the gun is just the FIRST
part, when it come down to it, you will have paid the same as, or more in ammo by the 2000th round.

A gun you don't enjoy and like, will in the end 'cost' you more, than buying what you enjoy and like.

My friend has has a Ruger P95. It's a very nice weapon and easy to shoot well. He's not very mechanically inclined, so I showed him how to field strip it and reassemble it (it's easy). I also painted the 3 dot sights for him with orange front and green rear sights. It was a good improvement over the all white factory paint. As with all Rugers I've owned or handled, it is built very well. He has been a revolver guy exclusively until this Ruger P95 and he really loves it. In that price range, you might also want to consider a used 3rd generation S&W like the Model 5906. It is a heavy beast, all stainless, but if it's a house gun, range gun it would be perfect. CDNN has them for $299 right now for police trade ins and Gunbroker.com has good to excellent examples for auction pretty consistenly (that's where I got mine). Low recoil (due to weight), 15 round mag (higher capacity Mec-Gar mags are available from CDNN and several other sources) good trigger and there are lots of spare parts around. I love mine! I also like the fact that my Kel Tec Sub 2000 folding carbine uses the same mags. The mags also work in my S&W 6904 with just a little hang over. The 6904(blue) or 6906(stainless slide) are also great choices if your looking for something smaller and lighter. They have alloy frames and 12rd mags. I've had my 6904 for over 20 years without a problem. Good luck on your purchase! One thing to remember about Rugers, spare parts availability other than directly from Ruger can be problematic. They are also very funny about shipping certain parts, so all too often it's off to the factory it goes for repair.

I had a P-95 for years, 100% reliable. Like most mass produced guns the trigger improves over the first thousand shots. If you can shoot one at a range, do so to get an idea if you like the fit and handling of the pistol.

I've got a P95. It's a good gun. The double-action trigger is very smooth. Single action is a bit creepy as noted, but personally it's not bad for me. The sights are good, and it'll digest about any ammo you could want to put in it.

As far as negatives - I do think the ergonomics are a bit lacking. It's not terribly bad, but the grip is a bit thick and slick. The thickness makes it a bit hard to conceal, but since you're not planning on using it for that then no issues there. Newer models also have a textured grip which helps some with the slickness (I bought mine ~10 years ago).

And yes, 30 round mags are out there, though not factory. The one in mine below is a ProMag one that I got a long time ago. Mostly a cool toy - I never use it as I prefer flush-fit mags, but it feeds good - just doesn't lock back the slide 100% of the time after the last round. The mags on the far right are the factory 10-round AWB era mags (got this gun when it was still in effect). Far left mag is a 17-round Mec-gar - it's a more recent purchase that I've only had out to the range twice, but it works fine. Right beside it is another ProMag magazine - 17 round. I had some issues with it at first, but it was mostly related to the follower. MidwayUSA sells factory followers for this gun for $3 or so, and after replacing the follower in that mag with a factory one it's been working fine too.

From what I've seen and read, a "good value for the money" handgun. One thing I don't care for is its magazine release, which must be pushed with a forward "rocking" motion. At least there is no chance you will inadvertently activate it. :D

Do some research, handle the above. If it's comfortable for you it will be the best $369 NIB you ever invested in a quality firearm.

If you want a hammer gun, you might want to consider a used S&W 5906. You can find the police trade-ins for $325-350. You can also find a used Beretta 92FS for the same price.

I was gonna get the p95. Its a good looking gun, inexpensive, and has fairly good reviews. I was set on it for a few months as my first gun. My brother in law has the same thing, except a 45 and it shot pretty nice too, except for the few jams in just 50 rds... he never cleans it, no pride I guess... but I decided on a Glock 19, cuz I want the gun to last forever, and you can't beat the dependability. So, I shelled out the extra $100 for the better choice...

How's the accuracy on the p95?

My gun store has bersa's, but does not have the cougar or the s/w - bersa's grips are a little thick and the 95 feels better, i got tiny hands. So how is the accuracy on these 95's?

I cant recall hearing anything bad about the P-95.

Rugers seem to have a rep for good accuracy and for being overbuilt ( as far as handguns anyway ).

I had a Ruger P-90 in 45 ACP and it had a fantastic trigger, course it ejected the brass about 15 feet right and back :eek:

I have shot a P-85 (I think ) and as I recall it ran pretty well, and I believe about the only difference between the 85 and 95 is the plastic frame of the 95.

And for what its worth, I would stack a Ruger P series against just about ANY manufacturer in a head to head shoot em till they puke contest.
