I finally got a chance to run by a local range to see if this old gal worked or not. I had 50 rounds of Federal 230 gr ball, 20 rounds of Federal 230 gr JHP and 20 rounds of Magtech 165 gr SCHP. I'm pleased as heck to report that all ammo fed and fired fine (with one exception that I'll touch on in a bit). As you can see from the accompanying pics, it took me a few mags worth of ammo to settle down and start shooting straight. Once I did get in the groove, though, I started to feel pretty good about the way she handled. This target isn't anything to really brag about, but I'm working with a severely damaged right shoulder, so I'm happy with it. I'm sure that if I could get off my lazy duff once in a while and do some pushups, the groups would shrink dramatically! I noticed a bit of primer wiping on the fired shells - that's okay. I've already got a service pack on order from Wolff Gun Springs.
Now for the bad news. It seems that of the two factory magazines that came with the gun, I've got a "good mag" and a "bad mag". I had three failures, all from the same magazine. Twice it failed to lock the slide back, and I had a hood jam once. On the slide lock failures, I noticed that the magazine follower was slipping past the slide lock without raising it. The hood jam came on the last round of the magazine. Looking really, really closely, I can see how the follower in the "bad" magazine is just a R.C.H. out of place when compared to the "good" magazine. I don't know if there's a source for new magazine followers, but if I ever feel froggy, I may just break out the needle-nose pliers and try to make the followers match. Until then, I'll keep the good magazine in it, and use the bad magazine as a reload (since I have every intention now of making this my new CCW gun). I figure that since all the failures came either on the last round, or after the last round had already been fired, I'll be out of ammo by the failure point. I'll just use the gun as a set of brass knuckles if I need to...
