Dang, I hate spilling powder

Was transferring some WSF from an 8 pound metal can to an empty plastic powder bottle, and it kind of "flomped" out into the funnel and turned over onto the dirty carpet. Spilled a little over half a cup. :cuss:

I scraped it up with a credit card, sifted out the dirt and dog hair, and managed to salvage most of it. I'm *not* going to dump this back in the big can or the little can -- but I haven't decided whether to throw it in the garden, or burn it on the driveway, or use it to load some practice ammo (something that takes a lot of powder per shot, like .45 Colt or .357 Magnum or .41 Magnum)

I know what I'd tell one of y'all who did something boneheaded like this... But it's different when I do it :eek:
 
If it's only a half cup, I suggest you don't fool with it and just plain dump it. Smokeless powder is a great source of nitrogen for your garden. My wife gratefully accepts all my spilled or obsolete powders for her rose garden.

If I handle powder like I handled blast media today, my wife's tomatoes are going to be 25 pounds each.

I was trying to pour the whole batch out of the tumbler into a bowl (from the kitchen :neener: ) and dropped half on the work bench.

I wonder if the birds will come in and clean it all up - the brass.
 
I like to put it on the front lawn in a design that will show as darker grass as the season progresses. That would be DANGER in 2 foot tall letters near the front entry way.:evil: I don't want to take the chance of scratching any of my barrels with dirt but that's just me.:scrutiny:
 
I have a special non-labeled bottle for spilled powder.
I don't want dog & cat hair blocking my powder hopper.
And I don't want anything scratching my gun barrels.

But that's just me... YMMV
 
I loaded a hundred .357 Magnums (moderate load, 7.0 grains each), watching the powder levels very closely. That used up most of it. Then I threw the last little bit out.

This brings to mind a scene from "Up in Smoke" where Cheech asked Chong what they were smoking. Chong replied "part maui wowie and part labrador. When asked to explain he said that his dog ate his stash. He had to follow the dog around all day and pick up the droppings to salvage the stuff. Cheech then exclaimed "we're smoking dog <forbidden word for dog dung>!!!?

While not as bad a situation I wouldn't worry too much if you just use this reclaimed powder for light "plinking" loads as suggested earlier. I had this happen to me years ago. I now use one of those counter cutting mats underneath my container when pouring into it. If I spill I can just pick it up, fold it like a funnel/chute, and put the spilled powder where it belongs.
