Hi there,
i'm beginning to reload 9x21 mm ammunition.
My dealer gave me (for free, at least) a LEE powder funnel, 22-45 caliber.

Well.... uhm... how it is so scandalous? i mean, the case goes inside the lower part of the funnel, obviously, but this way the funnel isn't stable, i must keep it on place by holding it in the lower tube.

Using case trays (those that holds 50 rounds), the funnel stand by itself by touching the lower part of the tube on the tray, but spreads the powder half in the case, half all over the tray

I think i'm already done with it.
If my memory serves i saw one with, in the center of the funnel hole, had a little metal pipe that channels powder in the middle of the case and no spills. Can't remember the brand, was dark green in colour.

Can you advice this funnel or at least a better one than the crappy lee? thanks.

Powder funnels are best used by holding the case & funnel in one hand with the taper in firm contact with the case mouth.

Pour in the powder, set the charged case in the loading block, repeat 49 times.

It sounds as if the bottom of the funnel is resting on the tray instead of the inside taper resting on the case mouth. If I'm hearing it right and that is the problem, you could shorten the funnel a little to stop the powder from leaking around the case mouth. If you would rather just get a new one, my guess is a green funnel is from RCBS.

I now only use Satern funnels made out of aluminium and brass. They, along with my Lee Perfect Powder Measure, make powder charging go so quickly and smoothly that my desire to buy a RCBS Chargemaster 1500 has abated greatly. The funnels I use are caliber specific, but I don't know if they make one in .357/9mm, but they also sell a universal funnel.

Midway has the Frankford Arsenal, caliber specific funnel kit on sale this month, about 15 bucks, has a funnel and an assortment of drop tubes for most common calibers, this little rig is well worth the money. The funnel will sit on the case mouth until you move it to the next case in the block.

Thanks for all the replies.
Yes as gritz suggested i could shorten that funnel.
I researched about the RCBS one, given that actually all my reloading equipment is from RCBS, and found:

RCBS 09087 Powder Funnel 22-45 Cal
Powder Funnel 22-45 Cal

Powder Funnel

This funnel is an improvement over regular-style funnels. It features a specially designed drop tube to avoid any mess powder spills around case mouths, a non-stick/anti-static surface, plus a square lip to keep the funnel from rolling around.
22 to 45 Caliber.

Can you tell about this specially designed drop tube? Seems like it is not traslucent plastic so internet pictures does not reveal nothing.

Thanks again

As far as I'm concerned, this is the only powder funnel that exists! The issue is I'm not sure you can find one for the 9mm. Maybe the 35 caliber would work but I really don't know.

I agree that the Lee is better served as a funnel to dump the powder from your measure back in the canister. The thing is garbage. The problem with it is that there is no chamfer where the case mouth hits the funnel, it's just a shelf. I always ended up losing powder out around the lip unless I was loading .223. But then again you have to hold it just so. Garbage, buy yourself a decent powder funnel, you deserve better than the Lee!

If the funnel can't close around the case mouth powder will go where it will. Your "problem" is your loading block, it's too high. Get a block made for those really short cartridges, the funnel will set where it should and all will be well.

I agree with rcmodel

This will provide a safety measure of no double charges, or spills because case was already charged and loading block with charged cases can be checked for consistency.

Have one, not a fan. At least for .223 the opening is too large and the it doesn't sit right. The case neck pokes through the opening unless you are careful.
