I put the pearls on it which I bought at a flea market for $20. They are real S&W MOP grips though. Not a perfect fit but they sure are pretty against that Detroit nickel

I think I've only fired about 6 rounds at a silouette at about 10 yards. It was a year ago or so. It shot great though. I killed the hell out of the silouette target anyway

I think it's a real cool piece. My 4 inch M&P was made in '53 and it's a mighty fine gun.
I presume yours is a 5 screw, right?

Definitely a five screw, it has the long action hammer.
a two inch factory M&P from that era is a very nice find. With flawless nickel its nicer still. Throw in the grips and I'm green with envy. Congratulations!

Thanks all. I bought that at an auction two years ago. There was a new Taurus from the '80s that came with it which I didn't really want. Both guns were about $650 out the door and I sold the Taurus for $300. So I've only got $350 in it. I of course kept the original grips which are numbered to the gun. The nickel isn't as perfect as it looks in this picture but it cleaned up really nice compared to how it looked when I bought it.
The M&P Snubby has a very early "short action," and I suspect a high "S" prefix serial number or a low "C" prefix. Note that at the base of the hammer spur there is a little notch, that acts as a stop when you cock the hammer. A nice feature, but they dropped it before long.
