Rear focus. Side focus is only there for ease of use.
I believe that rear focus is cheaper to make as well.
What about paralax adjustment? Side or rear?

The side focus has and is my choice as with the objective you get into the habit to pull your head up to find the front focus, or pull back you head on the rear focus and have a greater chance of losing your target. So the side is the one I choose.

Are you talking about focus or parallax adjustment?
Rear lens scope focus is adjusted to your eye for a clear reticule one time, and not changed again from then on.
Objective lens (front lens) AO parallax adjustment is more durable and water-proof then Side AO parallax adjustment.
Side AO is a lot more convenient to use if you change ranges constently while shooting prone, etc.
For normal known range shooting?
Objective (front) lens AO parallax adjustment is simpler, easier to seal, has less moving parts, and is probably more precise on low to mid range price scopes.

I'm with RCModel here. I own both. Once you get the focus set for your eye, at anything beyond a few meters, the scope is in focus. I think you are talking parallax? If so, once you have the range, front mount is simple and rugged.

I like side focus (Side Parallax actually) on both my Target & Tactical rifle(s) best and the front AO systems and smaller turrets on my hunting rifles. Purchase a quality scope and either side or front AO systems will work reliably and be waterproof.
Ok, stay on subject here boyz. Rear focus, preference, ease of use, pulling head up to refocus ................... all not part of the equation.

Um, no. They are two different things, or at least I have always understood them to be different. I have never seen a scope with a true focus ring on the objective nor on the side. Focus, on all the scopes I have handled is a function of the eye piece not the objective or a side mounted knob. On all the scopes I have handled you adjust the parallax with either the objective or the side knob.
For ease of use I like the side knob though in 99% of shooting a shooter is not going to need to adjust the parallax at all. No need to reach all the way out to the front of the scope and change my shooting position. Is one stronger than the other? I would imagine so but which one I am not sure. If you are shooting long range or unknown distance targets then parallax adjustment would come in handy. Otherwise you are just paying extra for something that you may not use or need.
And if you're left handed, the ergos are better on the objective adjustment as well.
