Anyone shoot the Encore in 30-06, 7mm, .300 Win Mag

I dont own an Encore (i have a contender ), but i DO use all three cartridges your asking about. Personally if i was only going to own ONE of them id get the 7mm (i assume remington magnum), It shoots flatter then either of the others hits harder on both ends then the 06, and quite a bit less then the .300. Course I also think your looking at rounds that do best in 24" 26" and 28" barrels respectively. You DO have a broader selection of bullets for the .30s, If your shooting only hunting bullets (I hunt with bergers and Amaxs), then the advantages of the 7mm arnt as pronounced.

LOL, then hard bullets in the .30-06 would probably be your best bet unless your making long shots. Deer hit with 162grn Amax from my 7mm have fist size holes thru and thru, you hit a shoulder tho and youll have shrapnel all over the place. The 180s i use in the .300 are worse for that, SSTs drop stuff very quickly but also blow up pretty bad. The 06 i normaly load with 165 SSTs or Balistics, those normally blow a 3-4" exit wound but generally dont leave as much bloodshot meat or bone shards on bone hits. Ive used 180s in the 06, but havent really killed too many things with them, they have so far tended to make 1-2" tunnels unless a heavier bone was hit, then they would open up to 3-4"s.

The 06 will be far cheaper to shoot than either magnum. And unless you are hunting at ranges the vast majority of folks shouldn't be, OR hunting dangerous game, the 06 is all the gun you'll ever need.

A deer, elk or moose will never know the difference at responsible hunting ranges. your shoulder and your wallet will also thank you.

One thing to look at is does it come with iron sights or not. The 30.06 barrel is one of the few that has iron sights, and is also drilled and tapped for scopes. I have several different calibers for my Encore. The 06 is the one i keep on it most of the time. It is running naked no scope.
