Encore help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i just bought a encore in 7mm rem mag. its the wood gun with factory heavy barrel. it has a simmons 50mm scope that came on the gun. i have a big problem, while shooting a whole box of 150gr wins through it about 12-18 rounds had enough recoil so that the scope hit my forehead! i have shot a 7mm before along with a 300 wby mag and a 300 wsm, none which i have that problem. what do i need to do? any help please!!!!

It's not the gun....you should move with the gun...not the gun move and you remain still.

When that happens the gun is moving through you, or around your head, for lack of a better analogy, instead of pushing you back with the firearm.

Also, I would bet your cheekweld is...'heads up', that is your cheek is not firmly planted on the comb of the stock, this occurs when the center line of the scope is relatively high, as it would be with a scope that has a 50mm objective.

Your cheek must remain firmly on the comb of the stock while your eye is in line with the center line of the scope, if this is not the case, you may need an 'add on cheek piece' to raise your eye so that it is in line with the center of the scope.

This will allow you AND the firearm to move as one unit during recoil.

Change the location of your head ,hahahahah, Or try to slide the scope forword abit. Simmons scopes offer more relief than most. I am one that tends to crowd a stock so i mount my scopes as far forword as i can in most cases and a have a simmons atec on my main rifle. The add-on cheek piece does sound like a good idea too if needed. If you get a chance just for the heck of it try some of hornady,s heavy mag 139gr sst ammo. If your rifle likes it you pick up another 150fps with them. Once you get that rifle shooting good ,remember that changeing the pressure on the screw on the front part of that stock will change the point od impact and you will have to check it again. Might get one of those touque setting screw drivers.Hope something i said helps or makes sents .

all of that sounds great. i am new to the encores. like i said i shoot large guns but i just have never had one do this to me. you think if i put a 40 mm on it will that help me any?

It may, but I'll bet it's the position of your head to the scope...the Encore stock recoils oddly for some as compared to other stock configurations, try a slip on cheek piece and see if that helps first...it'll be less expensive than a new scope, or less trouble than changing the scope.

Modern day simmons scopes are as crappy as anything made by BSA or NCstar

I'll bet if you check you'll find that the scope in question doesn't even have 2.5" of eye relief. This is a critical value that cheap scopes seldom have enough of. If this is the case this scope is not suitable for anything much harder recoiling than a .223

the Beartooth is the less expensive one, the others cost more but are top notch.

When you shoulder the rifle and look through the scope how many fingers can you get between the ocular bell and your forehead with your head positioned to see a full image through the scope

First I would recommend the purchase of a good quality optic. A low end Bushnell will serve you well with a tight budget; if you have a little more to invest, a Nikon Monarch will make a fine scope. If you want the best light transmission and glass at a decent price, a Zeiss is the scope for you IMO. For any and all of the above, make sure that any optic has a decent amount of eye relief (at least 4 fingers ), as you are firing a magnum rifle.

Secondly, you likely need to change your stance. Widen your stance to give yourself a good base, and fire the rifle off-hand. You also want to lean into it, letting the recoil push you back upright without moving your feet.

One potental hangup for optics on break actions is the scope mounting system. Many mounts offer the user NO flexibility in front to rear mounting

Scope eye really does suck doesn't it. With my encore I use mainly leupold scopes a couple of them in 50mm. If it only happened once chalk it up to poor shooting posture on that shot. If you are getting 2 1/2" eye relief I would look for something better. 3- 3 1/2" is generally pretty good I mount the scope based off of my cheek weld. I set the scope in the rings loosley and move the scope forward or back to match my eye. Then I level and tighten. Don't let it freak you out to much if it happens once. I darn well it hurts but keep shooting if it happens again look for something better in optics.

the only thing about A low end Bushnell is that i had one on my 300 wsm a-bolt and after a weekend of shooting it was broke. i dont know if one will stand up to the 7mm mag. i am a big big fan of nikon so i guess that is what i need to look at

I have had good luck with all of the Bushnell line (of course I haven't owned or even used all of their optics, and not on every rifle), even on the low end (something that I can't say for most others), but I am sure that the occasional scope doesn't turn out so well. I believe that the Monarch is a little nicer, than all but the Elite series anyway, so I think your decision is a good one.

The objective size has nothing to do with eye relief.....40mm just lets in a little less light. Look for a scope with decent (>3") eye relief.

in the first replies the are saying that maybe my head is to high on the stock with a 50mm so if i get a 40mm my head will be lower on the stock allowing to to move with the rifle

If the scope is a simmons blaser or something other there prohunter that does have a 50mm get rid of it. Nothing wrong with simmons if you get the atec or pro hunter but a 40mm to 44mm would lower the scope. I have bought a atec when they first came out. There now own'd by bushnell along with weaver, redfeild and a couple others. They do have the best glass you can get with meade still supply'n glass. Stay away from the cheap end of any scope complanes product line, they all make some junk.
