My 44 Magnum Snubbie!
I fired 20 rounds of Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel 200 grain JHP (1075 FPS) and 50 rounds of Magtech 240 grain SJSP (1178 FPS). The Speers were very controllable. The Magtechs were on the edge of what I can handle. They made Good Boom!
I also chose the Ruger over the S&W 629 Talo with 3" barrel because of 18DAI's (member of one of the S&W forums) comments on cruddy S&W quality. The stupid TALO grip finger grooves absolutely did not fit my hand. Why should a pay a premium for bad stocks? The gun was priced at $830. I couldn't pay that much for a gun with a lock on it. It also needed THE PLUG ($30), a trigger job and chamfering of the chambers. The Ruger needs the chambers chamfered too, but the price is low. The trigger out of the box is sufficiently good that I don't even need to add trigger shims or change the springs.
I had their new Model 640 in hand (the one with the fluted barrel and front and rear night sights). I took a very close look at it. The barrel was not on straight! I could see the variance on one side of the front of the frame. It was priced at $749 and the gun had better be PERFECT at that price. I put it down and asked for the Ruger Alaskan.
