There are only 5-10 major companies that make laptops. Compal, quanta, asus, etc. you've probably not heard of any of them. Dell, apple, sony, hp etc, send a spec sheet to the makers, get bids back, and then have the winner make that particular model of laptop. The same company might put out dell's top of the line computer full of the best components, and the cheapest gateway full of last years parts and 2nds.
I'm sure that the same holds true for scopes. The same factory in the phillipines or china probably puts out scopes for burris, vortex, tasco and simmons and cabelas. So even if you were able to track down the particular factory that a specific model of scope comes from, and then able to tell what other name brand scopes they put out, you still wouldn't have learned that much about your scope. Different specs, different levels of quality. And whoever made, for example, the vortex crossfire last year might not have the contract for the crossfire this year. Best you can do is look through a scope in person, check out the warranty of the brand selling it, and make a decision.
(ps: lcd panels for tv's, blank dvd's, etc are the same way)
