Hey everybody!
I'm new to the site and this is my first post

I recently moved to navada from California (finaly free at last to own real guns!)

I've been a gun person for years. Mainly I've handled shotguns and lever action rifles.

I'm in the market for a pistol. My first pistol.

I've read lots of threads. But nothing seems to help much.

Here's what I'm looking for.

A simi auto pistol
D/a s/a (I prefer exposed hammers Not into strikers or internal hammers)
Full size and preferably bigger (I have big hands And looking for somthing like the size of a barreta 92 with a simuler grip to a 1911)
UNDER $500
Durable
Reliable
Decocker

The reson that price is my limit is cause..well..my old lady told me if I spend a dime more she's will murder me.

And I'll admit I'm also looking for a good looking gun. I'm not a fan of Glock. They don't feel comfortable and look hideous.

The guns I've tried that I liked so far in my price range are

Used* Sig pro 2022 9mlobules perfect but Don't know it's track record or if it's a crap version of a sig)

Used* S&W 5906 (felt great and had all the features I liked pluse it's common and easy to work on.. But not alot of aftermarket parts.)

EAA witness (felt a tad small for my hands. But looked good and I herd great things)

Taurus p92 (felt good looked good. But idk about the Taurus pistol line)

Used* 92fs (same as Taurus felt and looked one but I've herd they have horrible accuracy)

Used* Cz75 (I've shot this pistol in 40 I loved it. But there kind of scarce here in Reno)

I'm looking to carry ...and i don't like small pistols..eventualy I'll get a small versa thunder 9mm for ccw but I'm looking for home defence right now and a fun gun with a decent kool factor.

I also want high cap capability
And I'm open to used guns

I go there quite often I'm looking for people with some opinion who've fired them....

Thanks tho man

I have bought a lot of gunx from pawn shops and have never had a problem with used guns. Lot of people just need the money.

easy, here is how you find your gun
you go to a range and SHOOT a bunch
then you sign up for a basic pistol course with a reputable instructor (NRA has accredited instructors in all 50 states)

Then, after you have found what you like, have a basic knowledge of how you want one to work, go find it,

the difference of 200 dollars is less than ONE case of ammo, you will send many times the value of the gun down range in it's lifetime. One could say, the gun is the CHEAP part of the equation.

Well as far as gun safety gose there no need for a class. Altho except for a ccw. But my dad is a officer...same with my uncle.. And they've tought me alot of smith and wesson revolvers. Aswell I know a bit about pistols...true I should take a course anyways.. Just for the knowledge... U can never learn enough..esspecialy with a gun.

I'm aware that I'll be spending more on ammo than a gun in the long run. And I'm ok with that.

I'll have to look into the ruger P95 more I guess lol

I should mention that I like steel over polymer... But that might be my love for revolvers talking and the 1911s I've shot in the past lol

+1 All the thinking in the world will get you exactly nowhere ultimately. You got to pull some triggers before you know if what you think you want is what you really want.

Has you dad or uncle ever mentioned to you their periodic re-qualification? Nothing wrong with a refresher every so often and most of the time it's a condition of keeping your position, sometimes your job.

There's... Only 1 indoor range that I know of here in Reno. Haven't had a chance to check it out... Mainly I just go to gun shops..pick them up. Hold them disassemble them dry fire a few times and sight it up and see the basics of it. That's how I came up with what I want in the gun.

I would love to test fire guns but times are tought and rentals r going up in price..
I know I should test fire..if I new people in the area that owned them and would let me. It would be great. But I'll look into that range more.

And no my dad hasent. Or not that I herd lol.

I'm 24
Eventually looking into going in for correctinal officer at one of the prisons around here.

If it helps this will be a gun for hd and SHTF
The p95 is a dam good looking gun.. And the reviews are favorable.
But I herd the grip is a tad short. I'm 6'3 263lbs. I got big hands lol

And i really don't like looking like big foot holding a ruger 380 lol

My dad dosent carry a revolver anymore I think he carries a sig 226? 229? One of those. He's retiring in a year. He swears by the 5906. That's how I found that pistol.

Well after doing research and watching videos..

I've narrowed it down to the sig pro sp2022 and the ruger p95

The sig I like on the basis that when I held it.. It was slightly bulky and had a perfect fit to my hand. Was light but not overly heavy.

Aswell it has a good reputation. And it looks like it means buisness.

For me this will be easy to conceal (I like under arm holsters)
As well it's basic and the take down is very simple.

The ruger I looked into I like it..I'm worried about the tips being to short

In any case in a few weeks I'll probly get the sig..take it to the range. And make a video and report back with my findings

Then get the Ruger P95. Try to find a used one. They are completely obsolete and very cheap to buy right now.

But they are still fine weapons.
I'd also recommend taking a second look at a Beretta.

A 1911 may also suit you well, but at three times your budget.:(

I herd they has ejector problems

Where did you hear that??

There was very small bacth or SP2022s that had a problem a couple years ago but that was an isolated case.

If you like the SP2022 don't hesitate getting it. I have one myself and love it. The SP2022 has a great trigger out of the box.

You have a lot of great choices on your list so you should be able to find something from it that works very well for you.

I'll take a walk to the gunstore somtime this comming week and check out there Rugers.

If the ejection prob was a minor incodent years ago...then I'm set on that sig pro
It just fits perfectly in my hand.

And is everything I'm looking for in a pistol

1911. God I love those things.. I had a chance in a trade for some guitar equipment to trade it for a like new rock island 45 1911.
But I passed up wanting somthin more high cap (new to navada I want what I couldn't have in California lol)

And despite what everybody tells me about 9mm not being a man stopper... Shot placement is key when shooting.. A .22 can be just as devastating as 45 with proper shot placement and training.

9mm. Not a heavy kick to it. My gf can use it if need be. I can carry more ammo in case I bug out then 45. And it's extreamly common and dirt cheap.

Imma go look at barretta again deffinatly. I like how they feel.. Tho I've herd som ppl I know who own them. Talk about being inaccurate....
Altho could be user error. I'll have to go find and shoot one.

I plan on buying 5 guns this year in navada. Pistol is the only one I'm not 100 on what to get lol

Amd 65
Benelli supernova tactical
Ruger security 6 357 snub nose

Sig pro? Barretta 92? Ruger p95?

What I own is mostly classic guns

A 1940s Winchester 94 30-30

Original Winchester 1887 12ga (still works but it's a wall hanger now lol)

Remington 870 wingmaster

Ithica 37 riot

Winchester model 12

1930s Colt detective 38 spec (I think it's from the 30s)

High standerd bolt action 12 ga (broke need to find a gunsmith)

Ruger mark III 22

Henry Golden boy 357/38

And a mouser type rifle that fires a .284 Winchester (amazing rifle but it cost about $2.50 per round. Yeesh)

If you're ok with going used, you can usually find Sig 226s for around $500. I believe Sarco has some well used 226s for around $400-450 (though the last time I checked if they had them in stock was a few months ago). They are pretty rough on the outside, but should be fully functional. Older (German/W.German) sigs, even commercial guns bought second hand, can sometimes be found for around $500 as well (and will be in better condition than those Sarco surplus guns).

If you're considering CCW, you might also want to look into the 228/229. Its essentially the same gun as the 226, just with about a half inch less barrel and slide.

I would love a 226

Rough on the outside? Meh... It dosent have to be perfect. Besides I could always send it in to get a replying or even duracoat.. So that's fine
