Going back to Glock

got my first glock issue to me in 1990. at first i did not like it or wanted the gun. before that time i made fun of glocks, not knowing much about them except what i read. i was a 1911 and wheel gun man. went through the required change over range days and i was sold on the glock 17. from that day i been a glock man. it is the only gun for daily carry on and off the job. yes, they might not the most ergonomic fit in the hand, but they are simple, work right out of the box, and don't need a break in period.

Good on ya!! When I retired in 2008 (at 62) I began to seriously simplify my life. After 47 years straight of either going to school, military service, work or some combination of the three I decided I was going to shed as much of the rat race as I could. If something I was doing was more "chore" than "fun" I started letting it go.

I no longer wear a watch, I could not care less what day of the week it is (except for Sunday), I sleep when I'm sleepy, get up when I'm not sleepy, eat a half dozen small meals a day, shave maybe once per week, and if some mechanical device is a royal PITA I've been known to get rid of it. I've finally learned not to sweat the small stuff and that it's all small stuff.

People keep asking me what do I do with all my free time. I just tell them 24 hours in day is just not enough time to do all the nothing I want to do. Some think retirement is a time to do all the things you want to do. I thought that too for a time but I now realize retirement is a time to not do all the things you don't want to do. Now, you still have to fix the toilet but that's a different sort of thing.

Plus the round count! Eighteen rounds is a lot ammo! And the magazines are the best, do not rust, can be kept fully loaded for ever.

I now what you mean. I tried the generic brand and finally went back to Charmin toilet tissue...when you find something that works for you...stick with it.

Haha. Sounds like me and cell phones. I still have a cell phone from the 1990's. And I like Glocks, too.

If Glocks are simple tools for simple people, color me simple. I also like my FNX, but I did my best to turn it into a Glock.

I know what you mean. I like Glocks for their simplicity and the fact that they can be disassembled fully for cleaning and parts upgrades/replacement. I also enjoy not really caring about my "soulless" Glock. If it gets beat up, banged around, ort scratched, it doesn't bother me. I always cringed when my high dollar 1911s would get a ding while running barricade drills. I dont have to worry about it rusting while dealing with the hot and humid southern summers, which was something I would constantly have to worry about when I carried my 1911/BHP. To make matters worse, I sweat excessively.

I am not bashing any other pistol. I would not be able to part with my Sig, BHP, or 1911. Each platform has its plus and minus points, including Glocks. I am often tempted to start carrying my 1911/Sig again, but I remind myself how much I demand from my carry platform and the one that has consistently delivered for me is my Glocks. YMMV.

You've gotta use something.. everybody does.

These are it, no more trying this or that, chasing the latest fad or wondering if this will work better than that. I've been through it all and I'm going back to Glock to stay.

I'm 27 and currently going through the "latest fads" and constantly trying the "next best thing". I cut my teeth on glock when I got into guns, but now have sigs, rugers, s&w's, hk's. Each time I buy a new non glock I tell my self, "this(insert brand here) is the best gun I've ever had, its going to be my new edc, shtf, etc... I always get my latest gun to the range and shoot it still saying, "this is awsome".
How ever the next morning when I get up to get ready for the day, I reach for the/a glock. Usually my 19 or 27.
I now have a safe full of various brands but continue to count on a glock to be my edc and night stand gun

I'm going through the same dilemma brother, Glock is the way to go, no need to fight it.

I've been through it all and I'm going back to Glock to stay.

You change guns like a teenage girl changes outfits before a date. You'll be back to experimenting and trying to find your nirvana pistol in no time.

But you go ahead and tell yourself whatever you want.

I've gone through too many guns to remember over the years and didn't buy my first Glock until a couple of years ago. Yes, it did feel like a brick attached to a plastic butt. After recently selling several guns, and not counting revolvers I now have only CZ, Kimber, Browning, Glock, & S&W. This wasn't part of a plan and I made several bad trades the last few years. I'm pretty much through trading. I simply can't afford it anymore. I do eventually want that Ruger SR 1911. Maybe next year. There's only 2 guns I habitually reach for when leaving the house. My G-23 and the little 5 shot S&W snubby. The Glock no longer feels like a brick, it always works, it's easy to clean and I can finally hit what I aim at with it. Sure, it doesn't fit my hand as nice as my CZ's or the old Browning HP but it's kinda begining to "fit" like a certain old pair of jeans that I'll wear til they're rags. I may just end up going with a used Glock .45acp instead of that Ruger.

Life will be good once you do this.

I had an obscene number of guns once; HK's, Garands from each manufacturer, big-buck 1911's, you name it. I sold almost all of them to pay for my last year of law school and bar exam prep, keeping only my Seecamp 380 and Glock 19. I have yet to restore my collection, save having swapped the Glock for an M&P and building a hard-use AR.

I now find myself spending more time on shooting and training instead of cleaning and collecting. I totally respect how somebody can enjoy collecting, but my bar exam consolidation introduced me to the fact I enjoy shooting more than accumulating. A Glock is a great tool to support this realization.

I know exactly what you mean. I recently bought a Sig P220 after owning exclusively Glocks for a year or so. The bottom line is that I'm still a Glock guy. They just feel better and I shoot them much better than the P220. I'm now ordering a FDE Glock 19 and I'm thinking about selling to Sig to fund a Glock 20 and some extras.

Just wish my new G19 worked. It's back at Glock.

I resisted Glocks for years, simply because of looks... I'm a Glock guy now, though. Also a Sig guy. And a 1911 guy. But Glocks will almost always be my carry and HD guns.

I would have named my son Glock but the other half said no. Colt just got his second tooth.

Makes a lot of sense to me. Has this approach of simplifying also carried over to your rifles and shotguns?

As far as it goes, sure. But Glock doesn't make a good .45 hunting revolver for example or a good bullseye .38 special revolver. For what it does, I do not want anything other than my Glock 19. But there are a lot of other things I like to do that my Glock 19 is not the best choice at.

I admire your decision to get back to basics, as it's the way I've gone as well. My choice is Glock 9mm for defensive gun and a Ruger .38+p snubby for CCW (SP101 now, but it's getting upgraded to an LCR shortly). If Ruger would just make the LCR in 9mm I could simplify even more.

I've thought about going the G26 route for CCW & if it weren't for the LCR I probably would go that way.

I carried a Glock 20 for several years, then my department switched to the Glock 22. The primary reason was the ammo was cheaper. I personally felt the Glock 22 was a better fit for me. I still like Glocks even if it is the ugliest gun ever made, but the damn thing always shoots whatever I put through it. Just had to add my 2 cents worth after about 21 years of Glock use. I will and have bet my life that my Glock would always operate when it was needed as long as I held up my end. I never had a failure to fire in over 21 years. The damn thing just works.

But have you tried the M&P or the PPQ??

going back to glock which makes you happy is all that counts, but for me i sold my g26 and 17l i knew it wasnt for me. nowadays theres more options out there other thank glock, what really caught my interest is the new ppq
